Vegetation cover in urban and peri-urban areas is threatened by sprawl, through habitat fragmentation, loss of green space, biodiversity reduction, the heat island effect intensifying. The intrusion cities into natural landscapes reduces vital ecosystem services provided vegetation. Hence, sustainable integrated planning practices are required. Our study aims to investigate dynamics fabric exploring relationship between distribution recent trends expansion, focusing specifically on Iași Municipality, Romania. We designed a mixed-method approach combining multivariate analysis four critical indicators (vegetation cover, built-up land surface temperature, population density), emerging hot-spots, space-time cubes GIS environment achieve our research aims. results demonstrate that uncontrolled expansion has manifested diverse patterns, impacting territories next road transport networks with construction-suitable topography. Concurrently, development spaces prevails forests unexpected locations such as brownfields, railway corridors, old industrial zones, growth greenery. This provides comprehensive understanding how sprawl impacts different types prone this transformation, creating path towards sustainability, resilience, equitable development.

Compared with research on the rapid development of Chinese metropolitan regions, systematic studies nature conservation in regions are lacking. We still lack a deep understanding spatial relationship between natural protected areas and built-up regions. In this study, we selected four time points, 1990, 2000, 2010, 2019, to analyze evolution patterns population exceeding one million China, their coexistence status. A comprehensive indicator “coexistence degree index” (ICD) was established evaluate areas, objectively quantifying phenomenon. The study found that over past 30 years, China’s has increased significantly: number by 36 times, area 12 nearest distance decreased from 15 km 0.7 km; ICD value 0.012 1990 0.037 cities high values 1 32. Future urban planning China needs pay more attention managing emphasizing for nature.

Urban green spaces, despite their recognized importance for sustainable urban development, face significant challenges to resilience and viability due rapid urbanization various associated pressures. The scientific problem addressed in this paper is the vulnerability of spaces stressors, including proximity settlement, land use cover changes, roads, among others. Despite importance, there a lack comprehensive assessments frameworks systematically evaluate address vulnerability. Therefore, study aims fill gap by employing multi-criteria decision-making framework, namely Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), Pressure-State-Response (PSR) framework. By analyzing 10 indicators related space through pairwise comparison matrix, identifies critical factors influencing categorizes into different susceptibility levels. Additionally, research extends its analysis future scenario development years 2030 2040, using Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) based Markov Chain model, incorporating parameters such as distances from built-up areas, rails, streams, slopes, elevation. Through these methodologies, provide valuable insights planners, policymakers, environmental practitioners, enabling them make informed decisions enhance sustainability areas whole.

Polycentric development facilitates urban–rural spatial reshaping and land use/land cover (LULC) protection. Previous studies have predominantly focused on urban areas, with delineation methods biased towards the macro-level, lacking a holistic perspective that situates them within framework. This study proposes framework is applicable to polycentric structure, taking into account social, economic, natural characteristics of urbanization. It employs semivariance analysis continuous wavelet transform (SCWT) analyze effects space Wuhan from 2012 2021 applies use transition matrix, landscape indices, bivariate autocorrelation quantify responses differences LULC space. The results indicate 600m×600m best scale for exhibiting multidimensional characterization structure alleviates compact central city, it drives rapid expansion at fringe, exacerbating heterogeneity in change pattern, configuration, urbanization response spaces. overall are relatively weak along gradient, experiencing positive negative back positive. novel depict transformation metropolitan areas provides valuable insights regional planning ecological conservation fringe.
