The marine diatom genus Pseudo-nitzschia comprises cosmopolitan phytoplankton species commonly present in the Adriatic Sea. Species within have been of significant concern because they produce domoic acid (DA), which can cause amnesic shellfish poisoning (ASP). In this study, we identified along Central and Southeastern Sea, where monthly sampling carried out from February 2022 to 2024 allowed for comprehensive documentation. cell cultures isolated study areas were morphologically molecularly analysed. Morphological analyses performed using a scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM/STEM), while molecular conducted, targeting ITS1-5.8S-ITS2, LSU, rbcL regions, confirm identity. This integrative approach led identification eight species: allochrona, calliantha, delicatissima, fraudulenta, mannii, multistriata, pseudodelicatissima, subfraudulenta. Our findings underscore value combined reliable contribute development genetic sequence databases that support advancement next-generation methods such as metabarcoding. research emphasises importance morphological differentiation cryptic pseudo-cryptic species.
