Heavy metal pollution in agricultural soils pose significant risks to food safety and human health, necessitating effective monitoring assessment techniques. Recognizing characteristic spectral features is essential for accurately assessing the ecological associated with heavy pollution. To explore potential of utilizing hyperspectrum evaluate ecologial metals paddy soil, study investigated characteristics (350 ~ 2500 nm) (Cd, Pb, Cr, Cu) rice soil Xiangtan County, Hunan Province, China. Potential risk index (RI) was employed level, derivative transformations (first R′ second R″) were applied eliminate hyperspectral noise. Results identified Cd as primary pollutant followed by Cu, Cr. Serious concentrated riverine cropland areas. After applying transformations, correlation between reflectance significantly improved. The R″ transformation demonstrated highest correlations (r = 0.95) at 2046 nm high category, while exhibited strongest negative − 0.94) 2059 nm. This highlights analysis an tool estimating posed soils. findings provide valuable insights improving practices informing management strategies environments.

Groundwater sources such as wells and boreholes serve primary drinking water supplies in many communities especially developing countries like Nigeria. However, the presence of heavy metals these poses potential health risks. This study evaluates compares concentrations iron (Fe), chromium (Cr), cadmium (Cd), manganese (Mn) well borehole samples collected from five locations each Shagari Village, Akure, Ondo State, Water were analyzed laboratory to determine their metal concentrations. Results showed that Fe levels are higher (0.134–0.163 ppm) compared (0.078–0.110 ppm). Chromium (0.063–0.080 than (0.023–0.030 ppm), with some exceeding WHO limit 0.05 ppm. Cadmium varied slightly, ranging 0.004–0.009 ppm 0.006–0.010 Manganese similar both sources, slight variations. The findings suggest may have due soil leaching, while exhibits Cr levels, possibly geological formations. Continuous monitoring appropriate treatment methods recommended ensure safety.
