Urban Geography studies forms, social fabrics, and economic structures of cities from a geographic perspective. Catalysed by the increasingly abundant spatial big data, seeks new models research paradigms to explain urban phenomena address issues. Recent years have witnessed significant advances in spatially-explicit geospatial artificial intelligence (GeoAI), which integrates AI, primarily focusing on incorporating thinking concept into deep learning for studies. This paper provides an overview techniques applications GeoAI based 581 papers identified using systematic review approach. We examined screened three scopes (Urban Dynamics, Social Differentiation Areas, Sensing) found that although is trending topic geography neural network-based methods are proliferating, development still at their early phase. challenges existing advised future direction towards developing multi-scale explainable GeoAI. acquaints beginners with basics state-of-the-art serve as inspiration attract more exploring potential studying socio-economic dimension city life.

The Yellow River Delta (YRD), a critical economic zone along China's eastern coast, also functions as vital ecological reserve in the lower River. Amidst rapid industrialization and urbanization, region has witnessed significant land use/cover changes (LUCC), impacting ecosystem services (ES) security patterns (ESP). Investigating LUCC's effects on ES ESP YRD is crucial for sustainable development. This study utilized PLUS model to simulate 2030 use scenarios, including natural development (NDS), (EDS), protection scenarios (EPS). Subsequently, InVEST circuit theory were applied assess under varying LUCC from 2010 2030. Findings indicate: (1) Notable 2030, marked by decreasing cropland increasing construction water bodies. (2) From 2020, improvements observed carbon storage, yield, soil retention, habitat quality, whereas 2020–2030 saw increases yield retention but declines quality storage. Among EPS showed superior performance all four ES. (3) Between sources, corridors, pinchpoints expanded, displaying spatial heterogeneity. scenario yielded most substantial pinchpoints, totaling 582.89 km2, 645.03 64.43 respectively. highlights importance of EPS, offering insightful scientific guidance YRD's

Urban centers across the globe are undergoing rapid land use changes due to population growth, economic development, and urbanization. These have a profound impact on environmental dynamics urban livelihoods. This study investigates their implications livelihoods in Iwo, Nigeria. The research explores patterns drivers of over past four decades evaluates effects quality A combination remote sensing survey methods was employed. Landsat images from 1982 2023 were analyzed using supervised classification techniques map cover categories such as built-up areas, vegetation, farmland, bare land, water bodies. Additionally, conducted with 550 residents, selected through simple random sampling, identify key expansion residents’ perspectives. Descriptive analysis revealed that most respondents had lived Iwo for 30 years, many engaged farming, trading, civil service. Factor used significant variables driving growth. results indicate substantial increase 9.30 km 2 30.69 2023, alongside decrease vegetation cover. Farmland area showed an increasing trend, while decreased. Key growth identified include religious activities, availability resources, small-scale businesses, government initiatives, educational institutions. deforestation, reduced green spaces, increased surface runoff, pollution, which affect air quality, biodiversity. highlights importance sustainable planning balance preservation social equity. implementation infrastructure, effective waste management, comprehensive policies is crucial enhancing resilience life Iwo.

With the implementation of human activities, such as logging, reclamation, and construction, increasing fragmentation ecological space blockage biological migration corridors cause many threats to biodiversity conservation. In this study, we used Northwest Beijing Ecological Containment Area research area. Based on an integrated circuit theoretical model, identified functional connectivity networks analyzed spatial temporal changes patterns in region from 1998–2018 terms landscape connectivity, breakpoints, pinch points, barriers, respectively. The results show that average remote sensing index had a trend decreasing then increasing, total 33, 34, 63 habitat core areas 70, 74, 152 were 1998, 2010, 2018, regions with high mainly central part Yanqing District, southwest corner study area, eastern urban Although number potential gradually increases probability status vulnerability continue increase due conflict between land uses. area reflects comprehensive effectiveness capital’s high-quality development under strategic deployment civilization. context fragmentation, effective protection restoration conditions function is great importance guaranteeing quality sustainable country.

This study was aim to assess the spatial-temporal trends of urban expansion with land use/land cover change dynamics over a period 30 years in Addis Ababa. The source data were Land sat satellite imagery freely available by United States Geological Survey, Ababa City plan map obtained from city governance planning and development commission, Ethiopia Space Science Geospatial Agency. analysed using QGIS, ERDAS software. finding showed that last thirty highly spreads (Urban Expansion Intensity Index(UEII)=1.524%); building-up increased faster (dynamic degree (K) = -6.22 Annual Urban Rate(AUER) is 3.56. From finding, spreading speedily.

Urban green–blue space (UGBS) plays a crucial role in Chinese cities, occupying more than half of the built-up areas. Understanding spatiotemporal dynamics and driving factors UGBS central Nanjing during rapid urbanization is important for studying evolution high-density urban-area environments, providing fundamental basis related research policy formulation. This study utilized remote sensing images to estimate extent from 2000 2020 analyzed using intensity area change, land transfer matrix, multi-order adjacency index, boosted regression tree model. revealed UGBSs 2020: (1) between 2020, there was 4.0% net increase total Nanjing. (2) primarily showed marginal-type expansion, accompanied by proximity-type expansion. Spatially, new patches tended cluster around large pre-existing natural patches. Furthermore, expansion shifted urban periphery interior. (3) Natural exerted greater influence (88.3%) socioeconomic (11.7%) on UGBS. Average annual radiation (43.4%), elevation (16.5%), slope (15%), aspect (13.4%), population density (2.8%) were primary factors. Our results contribute understanding changes behind these changes, thereby support future planning, protection, sustainable development

Rapid urbanization and industrialization have had a range of effects on urban form land use, especially in resource-based cities. Previous research has predominantly focused the analysis compactness or land-use efficiency individually, overlooking their interplay. In this study, we propose coupled coordinated framework for (UC) (ULUE). We analyze UC ULUE, as well degree types coupling coordination (CCD) between them, 119 counties districts rich coal resources within Shanxi Province. The findings reveal declining trend Province over time, with coal-resource-based cities exhibiting lower than non-coal-resource-based ULUE shown stable development during study period. CCD exhibit spatial typological heterogeneity. Further demonstrates that mainly manifest lagging UC. This provides foundation achieving harmonious structure offers new perspectives sustainable regions.
