Soil is an essential resource, and its degradation challenging modern agriculture, while impact expected to increase in the near future. One of strategies address this issue incorporate new alternative crops able tolerate arduous conditions, as well for use sustainable agricultural practices order recover and/or improve soil health. Additionally, increasing market functional/healthy natural foods promotes search potential crop species with promising bioactive compounds content. For purpose, wild edible plants are a key option because they have already been consumed hundreds years traditional gastronomy there well-established evidence their health-promoting effects. Moreover, since not cultivated species, grow under conditions without human intervention. Among them, common purslane interesting good candidate integration commercial farming systems. With worldwide spread, it drought, salinity heat stress used dishes, highly appreciated high nutritional value due compound content, especially omega-3 fatty acids. In review, we aim present breeding cultivation purslane, effects abiotic stressors on yield chemical composition parts. Finally, information that helps optimize facilitate management degraded soils exploitation existing

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is home to diverse indigenous medicinal plants traditionally used for centuries. This study systematically evaluates the pharmacological and nutritional potential of key plants, including Lawsonia inermis, Nigella sativa, Ziziphus spina-christi, Allium cepa, sativum, Cymbopogon schoenanthus, Matricaria aurea, Phoenix dactylifera, Portulaca oleracea, Reichardia tingitana, Salvadora persica, Solanum lycopersicum, Trigonella foenum-graecum, Withania somnifera, lotus. Comprehensive literature searches were conducted using PubMed, Scopus, Web Science identify studies relevant their uses. findings highlight therapeutic roles these in managing global health challenges such as gastrointestinal diseases, antimicrobial resistance through bioactive compounds like flavonoids, polyphenols, antioxidants. Additionally, contributions nutrition, essential vitamins minerals, are emphasized disease prevention promotion. While this research focuses on UAE, implications globally relevant, many also found traditional medicine across Asia, Africa, Europe. Integrating into healthcare systems offers solutions pressing public concerns, reduces reliance synthetic pharmaceuticals, promotes sustainable practices. work a valuable reference researchers, professionals, policymakers, bridging knowledge modern scientific applications globally.

Purslane (Portulaca oleracea L.) is an herbaceous species that traditionally consumed across the world due to its nutraceutical quality, boasting anticancer, anti-inflammatory and antidiabetic properties. These traits render purslane attractive wild edible for research commercial exploitation. The current study examined effect of different nitrogen (N) concentrations (100–200 mg L−1; as N100, N200) in combination with levels (decreased 0.66-fold: dec, recommended 1-fold: rec, or increased 1.5-fold: inc) phosphorus (P; 47–70–105 L−1) potassium (K; 250–350–525 nutrient solution (NS) used hydroponic film technique (NFT) cultivation. N200_PKinc NS resulted improved crop growth compared N200_PKrec NS, suggesting a positive correlation between optimal N (i.e., 200 P K (105 525 L−1, respectively). Plants grown revealed decreased antioxidant activity (e.g., DPPH, FRAP, ABTS), phenols flavonoids, while simultaneously total soluble solids levels. mirrored low lipid peroxidation, mainly increase catalase enzymatic activity. Higher use efficiency was observed when both N100_PKinc were applied, resulting higher yield enhanced plant growth, produced plants findings suggest (N200_PKinc N100_PKinc) have potential benefits cultivation purslane, latter offering additional advantages terms produce quality.

Purslane (Portulaca oleracea L.) is rich in phenolic compounds, protein, and iron. This study aims to produce functional yogurt with enhanced antioxidant, anticancer, antiviral, antimicrobial properties by including safe purslane extract formulation; the was preserved for 30 days at 4 °C, then biochemical fluctuations were monitored. The (PuE) had high compounds flavonoids of 250 56 mg/mL, respectively. Mullu Kuruman tribes majorly reside in the Wayanad district of Kerala, India. Their dietary practices and food systems are deeply intertwined with wild underutilised plants, but modern interventions globalisation have altered them. Therefore, understanding their traditional ecological knowledge regarding plants used for medicine is important biodiversity conservation sustainability resources. This study, therefore, explores diversity plant use among 125 respondents from tribe. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews field visits Malayalam during household walks gardens forests. study documents 111 species across 85 genera 42 botanical families. Most these were (66.66%), while 26.13% medicinal purposes. Bambusa bambos recorded highest Use Report (281), Cultural Index (2.248), Relative Importance (1), Value (1.327). shows rich by Kurumans, which security resilience. The agroecological climate-resilient crops such as Eleusine coracana, Panicum sumatrense, Sorghum bicolor suitable dryland agriculture. Leafy vegetables Alternanthera sessilis, Basella rubra, fruits Artocarpus incisus, Canavalia brasiliensis Ziziphus oenopolia minerals vitamins can enhance health well-being. Using carbohydrate-rich Dioscorea spp., Amorphophallus paeonifoliius, Colacasia esculenta contributes to security. These insights crucial sustainable conservation. Similar studies other parts offer new into local tribal communities deal climate change challenges.
