Clarias fuscus, renowned for its resilience and nutritional value, is a significant aquaculture species in China. To facilitate further genetic research breeding programs this species, we generated an improved high-quality chromosome-level genome assembly of female C. fuscus using MGI, PacBio, Hi-C sequencing technologies. The final spans 982.84 Mb, with contig scaffold N50 values 36.16 Mb 37.66 respectively, successfully anchors 99.60% the sequences to 28 pseudochromosomes. We also predicted 24,849 protein-coding genes, 97.3% them functionally annotated. BUSCO analysis indicates completeness 97.03% 96.6% annotation. This study significantly advances genomic resources available supports future molecular functional genomics research.

Abstract Due to the non-degradable and persistent nature of metal ions in environment, they are released into water bodies, where accumulate fish. In order assess pollution fish, enzyme, glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD), has been employed as a biomarker due sensitivity various ions. This study investigates kinetic properties G6PD enzyme yellow catfish ( Pelteobagrus fulvidraco ), analyzes effects these on activity ovarian cell line (CCO) channel Ictalurus punctatus ). IC 50 values inhibition types were determined Cu 2+ , Al 3+ Zn Cd . While, competitive inhibition, linear mixed noncompetitive competitive, respectively. vitro experiments revealed an inverse correlation between ion concentration, mRNA levels increased at lower concentration decreased higher concentration. Our findings suggest that pose significant threat even low concentrations, potentially playing crucial role toxicity mechanism pollution. information contributes development biomonitoring tool for assessing contamination aquatic species.

Abstract The African catfish ( Clarias gariepinus ) is a commercially important species, for both fisheries and aquaculture, now the most commonly farmed fish in sub-Saharan Africa. However, knowledge about genetic diversity population structure of wild populations, which crucial effective conservation sustainable aquaculture management, scarce. Using mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) cytochrome c oxidase 1 gene (COI) sequencing genomic analysis using triple restriction site-associated (3RAD), we investigated C. populations from Nigeria, including an albino form found wild. Eleven COI haplotypes were identified, seven unique to samples. Wild sampling sites had slightly broader range higher maximum values observed heterozygosity Ho = 0.109 – 0.165), expected He 0.111 0.216), nucleotide pi 0.125 0.225) compared 0.118 0.147, 0.112-0.144, 0.117 0.151). Conversely, differentiation Fst was among ones there high between 0.31 0.47). Despite evidence admixture fish, little two groups. Nevertheless, mtDNA 3RAD data strongly suggested that collected wild, fact farm escapees. overall genotypes suggesting integrity has been maintained, this escape provides warning potential risks increasing activities. Specifically, indicates need greater regulation farms monitor reduce risk escapes.
