Abstract: Background: This study aimed to systematically review the literature regarding inflammatory profiles, measured by cytokines and chemokines, of individuals with different diagnoses weight, but similar periodontal condition. Materials Methods: Searches were performed in five databases (Scopus, EMBASE, PubMed, Web Science, Cochrane-Central). Studies that compared profile normal-weight those obesity evaluated same cytokine, collection method, diagnosis (periodontal health, gingivitis, or periodontitis) included. Cross-sectional studies underwent evaluation independent researchers using Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklist. The GRADE (Grades Recommendation, Assessment, Development Evaluation) system assessed evidence certainty. Results: Twelve was done on basis body mass index, waist circumference, waist–hip ratio. Pro-inflammatory (interleukin-6 [IL-6], tumor necrosis factor-α [TNF]-α, IL-1β, IL-31, IL-34) analyzed serum, saliva, gingival crevicular fluid (GCF), plasma. Periodontal varied across studies. TNF-α expression significantly higher health periodontitis. Serum IL-1β levels showed mixed results, salivary elevated obese individuals. IL-6 individuals, regardless status. IL-34 IL-10 no significant differences groups. Monocyte chemoattractant protein-4 (MCP-4) periodontitis health. IL-31 GCF between nonobese without Conclusions: Heterogeneous results noted for IL-6, IL-34, TNF-α, MCP-4, hindering conclusions weight’s impact profiles patients.

Gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) and oral have emerged as promising diagnostic tools for detecting biomarkers. This review aimed to evaluate the existing literature on using fluids a source of biomarkers bone turnover diseases affecting jawbone. A comprehensive search strategy was executed between August 2014 2024 across five major databases (Web Science, EBSCOhost Dentistry & Oral Sciences Source, Cochrane Library, Scopus, PubMed) grey sources. The Preferred Reporting Items Systematic Reviews Meta-Analyses extension Scoping (PRISMA-ScR) applied. screening facilitated Rayyan at rayyan.ai Endnote X20 software tools, culminating in evaluation 14,965 citations from 34 literature. Following rigorous scrutiny, 37 articles were selected inclusion this review, encompassing such periodontitis, medication-related osteonecrosis jaw (MRONJ), osteoporosis. quality included observational studies assessed Revised Risk Bias Assessment Tool Non-Randomized Studies (RoBANS 2). Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), sclerostin, osteoprotegerin (OPG), interleukin-34 (IL-34) significant GCF, they mainly periodontitis Osteocalcin (OC), IL-1β, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), OPG, matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) or saliva, MRONJ, These findings underscore potential use fluids, which are regarded non-invasive biomarker identification turnover. Many overlap, it is important identify other specific enable accurate diagnosis these conditions.

Periodontal disease is a multifactorial infectious and immunoinflammatory condition that affects the tissues surrounding teeth, potentially leading to irreversible damage tooth loss. Early detection diagnosis are crucial preventing its progression associated systemic health risks. Traditional clinical diagnostic methods, such as probing depth radiographic assessments, have limitations in detecting early-stage disease. Consequently, molecular biomarkers found saliva emerged promising tools for early monitoring of periodontal These include inflammatory mediators, enzymes, bone remodeling markers, microbial metabolites, providing valuable insights into status progression. Advances omics technologies, including proteomics genomics, further enhanced identification potential biomarkers, paving way precision medicine periodontology. This chapter reviews role specific salivary assessment, highlighting their potential, applications, future research directions field.

Objective: Determine the association between periodontal disease (PD) and obesity through an umbrella review. Materials Methods: A search for information until March 2024 was carried out in following electronic databases: PubMed, Cochrane library, Scopus, SciELO, Web of Science, Google Scholar, Proquest Dissertations Theses, OpenGrey. We included studies that were systematic reviews (SR) with or without meta-analysis, time language restrictions, evaluated primary associated PD obesity. Literary narrative reviews, rapid intervention studies, observational preclinical basic research, summaries, comments, case reports, protocols, personal opinions, letters, posters excluded. The AMSTAR-2 tool used to determine quality overall confidence studies. Results: preliminary yielded a total 419 articles, discarding those did not meet selection criteria, leaving only 14 articles. All reported obesity, OR RR ranging from 1.1 1.46 1.64 2.21, respectively. Conclusions: Based on results conclusions SR high level, is

: To explore the association among salivary biomarkers, periodontal inflammation, and adiposity status in adolescents. This study included 180 Hong Kong adolescents aged 12–15 years. Anthropometric measurements including central obesity surrogate, waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), dental examinations were conducted. The participants classified into four groups as follows: with normal WHtR less extensive inflammation (NW+LP); high (HW+LP); more (NW+P); (HW+P). Saliva collected to measure physicochemical parameters, total bacterial load, levels of protein biomarkers secretory phospholipase A2 group IIA (sPLA2-IIA) interleukin-6 (IL-6). Data analysed by Kruskal-Wallis test Spearman correlation coefficient. Salivary IL-6 sPLA2-IIA output differed significantly between (P = 0.041, 0.027, 0.043, respectively).
