Cover crops are becoming widely integrated into many farms as tools for improving sustainability. However, the decisions by growers planting follow several objectives/criteria, of which overlap. This review orders these sowing rationales a practical framework land management guidance. Prioritised cover crop performance objectives, optimal species and their environmental requirements discussed. A key consideration this is that used part rotation strategy. Here, farmers’ primary objectives to maintain or enhance biomass not plants themselves but following commercial crop. For example, large may be beneficial reducing field-nutrient losses counterproductive if nutrient immobilisation offtake then results in subsequent nutrition stresses yield declines. Furthermore, selection practices must negative impacts mitigated. has found strong research focus on nitrogen dynamics limited recycling more broadly. Moreover, there growing evidence regionality plays critical role partnering due variations edaphic climatic influences, shortfall inform strategies important agricultural centres such Northern Ireland.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi associate with legumes to enhance nitrogen fixation and nutrient absorption, thus promoting plant growth reducing fertilizer usage. This study aimed measure the degree of specificity dependency cover inoculated arbuscular from degraded soils acidic pH low fertility in Alto Cumbaza sector, San Martín, Peru. Four species (Cajanus cajan, Canavalia ensiformis, Crotalaria juncea, Vigna unguiculata) were evaluated three types (Acaulospora rugosa, Acaulospora sp., Ambispora appendicula) a completely randomized design replications. ensiformis rugosa reached greater height (271.67 cm), while juncea sp. showed higher aboveground biomass (27.52 g). unguiculata exhibited high colonization (71.48%) (54.40%), Cajanus cajan appendicula phosphorus content (5.01%). These interactions varied significantly, demonstrating associations. findings are important for establishing programs recover fungi.

Cover crops are multifunctional, and contribute to improving soil properties reducing environmental impact compared no-cover crops, thus could provide multiple soil, agricultural, benefits, they recognized as a valid strategy for the achievement of sustainable agriculture. However, cover crops’ impacts on subsequent cash characteristics dependent several factors, such pedoclimatic conditions, crop species, agricultural practices, method termination, irrigation management. The fact that never applied single practice in real sector, but instead combined with other factors or deeply affects their performance, scientific literature nevertheless keeps considering use alone. Moreover, potential outcomes encompass practices affecting quality, weed control, still unclear. Additionally, poorly Mediterranean type climate. Therefore, this study reviewed identify most relevant driving outline future fields investigation looking towards promising agriculture areas view minimizing competition water cropping systems reduce degradation. Furthermore, includes better represent farming system, contributing comprehensive understanding interactions suggests alternative strategies yield gap while seeking achieve sustainability.
