Nanoplastics (NPs), defined as plastic particles with dimensions less than 100 nm, have emerged a persistent environmental contaminant potential risk to both environment and human health. might translocate across biological barriers accumulate in vital organs, leading inflammatory responses, oxidative stress, genotoxicity, already reported several organisms. Disruptions cellular functions, hormonal balance, immune responses were also linked NPs exposure vitro assays. Further, been found adsorb other pollutants, such organic pollutants (POPs), leach additives potentially amplifying their advere impacts, increasing the threat organisms greater alone. However, toxic effects remain largely unexplored, requiring further research elucidate risks health, especially accumulation, degradation, migration, interactions systems long-term consequences of chronic these compounds. This review provides an overview current state-of-art regarding mechanisms toxicity within cells.

Abstract Background Plastic pollution, particularly microplastics (MPs) and toxic additives such as bisphenol A (BPA), endangers human health. Therefore, their routes in the environment need to be investigated. This study investigated microplastic abundance, (BPA) levels, antioxidant activity (AA) three commonly consumed vegetables—green amaranth, jute mallow, spinach sourced from two markets Osogbo, southwestern Nigeria. Microscopic technique was used determine MP shapes, colours. High-performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) analyse BPA contents while 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay measure AA. hazard index (HI) estimated dietary intakes (EDIs) were estimate associated risks food safety concerns with vegetables. Results In this study, abundance shoots ranged 4.00 ± 0.50 7.67 1.04 particles/g roots 5.33 1.53 18.00 6.93 green respectively, indicating subsoil contamination. Three shapes (fragment, fibre, irregular) five colours (transparent, white, yellow, black, brown) detected, fragment shape transparent colour dominating. Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopic (FTIR) analysis revealed a predominance of polyethylene, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, polyvinyl chloride, polyamide microplastics. The 5.55 0.56 6.65 0.00 μg/g AA 40.67 6.79 72.55 4.03%. regression principal component (PCA) identify relationship among factors (MPs, BPA, AA). It is suggested that high levels MPs negatively impacted vegetable quality they are environmental Contrastingly, had significant positive correlation quality. Both EDIs HI < 1, no risk exposure consumption. Conclusion highlights potential health contamination intake suggest immediate risks, but long-term remains concern. vegetables warrant stricter monitoring agricultural soil irrigation water sources. Microplastic crops can reduced policies regulate plastic waste disposal promote sustainable farming practices.

The rise of microplastics (MPs) is a global concern jeopardizing environmental safety. Initial studies have extensively concentrated on aquatic ecosystems, leaving their presence in terrestrial environments unknown. Thus, this study was carried out to investigate the vertical distribution MPs farmland soils Mabibo Bonde la Mchicha Farm (MBMF), Dar es Salaam. 39 soil samples collected from MBMF were investigated using Stereomicroscope and QATR-S FTIR. Results herein showed that found all different depths up 15 cm deep, ranging 4.8 82.2 items g-1 dry weight (DW). There statistically significant difference MP abundance between 0–5, 5–10 10–15 layers (P = 0.033) at ὰ 0.05. observations revealed by observed colors, which white (36.5 %) most frequently observed, followed blue (21.4 %), brown (20.2 black (12.8 red (9 %). Polyethylene (PE) polypropylene (PP) polymers constituting 33 % each, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) 11 %, high-density (HDPE) 8 polyester (PES) 7 polyamide (PA) polyvinyl chloride (PVC) 1 %. It can be inferred PE PP exhibited greater mobility. However, PA PVC only topsoil layer. This reveals MPs' occurrence transfer urban
