This study investigates hydrodynamic performance of a novel sludge pretreatment device based on periodic shock wave generation by hydraulic hammer mechanism. A falling circular jet thickened waste activated was repeatedly impacted rotating blade, resulting in occurrence waves within the liquid region adjacent to impact. The rotational generator (RGHS) treating 10 L operated for 30 passes and at two different speeds producing blade impact velocities 44 m/s 70 m/s, respectively. At velocity passes, able achieve 41.3 % disintegration degree (DD), specific energy consumption (SEC) 10.4 kWh/kg sCOD released 9.0 improvement produced methane volume over unprocessed sample. Corresponding values regime were DD = 18.7 %, SEC 8.03 33.1 production. In both regimes, shear-dependent viscosity reduced about 60 while physicochemical analysis, FTIR spectra revealed substantial structural changes WAS, namely median particle size reduction, degradation proteins polysaccharides, microbial cell wall damage, what notable also SEM images. Compared other rotary devices, RGHS can relatively high consuming significantly less solubilization, production enhancement.
