Nitrogen (N) is the most widely applied macronutrient to maintain soil fertility. However, conventional N fertilizers are generally of low use efficiency due loss by means lixiviation and volatilization. Therefore, application slow-release one advanced solutions overcome these issues. The purpose this study develop new (N-SRFs) pellets using oxidized cellulose nanocrystals (CNCOX) citric acid grafted (CNCCA) modified natural hydroxyapatite hybrid nanocomposites (HAP–CNCox HAP–CNCCA) as a carrier for nitrogen delivery. HAP–CNCox HAP–CNCCA composites were prepared an in situ wet chemical precipitation method phosphate rock source calcium (Ca2+) phosphorus (PO43–). Urea was immobilized onto CNC–HAP aqueous solution produce three N-SRF formulations: HAP–urea, HAP–CNCox–urea, HAP–CNCCA–urea. Fertilizer formulations fully characterized structural (FTIR DRX) morphological (SEM) tools, results demonstrated that urea molecules strongly bonded HAP HAP–CNC through several mechanisms including H-bonding, metal–ligand interactions, physical storage within existing micro- nanopores. water release experiment developed N-SRFs SRFs displayed property required 18 days complete compared pure urea, which dissolves rapidly first 3 h. kinetics best described Korsmeyer–Peppas, while mechanism first-order kinetic model.
