ABSTRACT Intercropping enhances plant growth, increases yield, and boosts the accumulation of secondary metabolites. Platycodon grandiflorus ( P. ), a traditional Chinese medicinal herb, has limited research available regarding its intercropping practices. We aimed to (1) examine changes in physiological biochemical indicators growth during process , (2) assess quality when intercropped with different crops, (3) evaluate optimal mode for . This study utilized two‐year seedlings as test material field study. The treatments included monoculture (JG‐JG), Achyranthes bidentata (JG‐NX), Saposhnikovia divaricata (JG‐FF), Adenophora stricta (JG‐SS), Zea mays (JG‐YM), Setaria italica (JG‐GZ), Glycine max (JG‐DD). investigated effects these modes on indicators, five saponins at various development stages. Compared JG‐JG, chlorophyll MDA contents significantly increased decreased, respectively, JG‐YM, JG‐DD, JG‐NX treatments. All three enhanced biomass exhibited higher levels antioxidant enzyme activity osmoregulatory substance content. JG‐YM JG‐SS p < 0.05) improved notably maintaining high content platycodin D. results this provide scientific basis optimizing planting systems advancing sustainable medicine industry.
