The structure and characteristics of LEOPs, β-oligosaccharides from the fruiting body Lentinus edodes obtained via acid degradation gel permeation chromatography, were investigated. We performed high-performance liquid infrared spectroscopy, methylation analysis, nuclear magnetic resonance, correlated activity experiments, including antioxidant, immunomodulatory, liver injury protection to gain insights. LEOPs comprised an oligosaccharide (Mw 2445 Da) based on six β-1, 3-D-glucose residues as main chain 6-D-glucose side chain. Surface plasmon resonance analysis indicated that directly bound dectin-1, which facilitated their immunoenhancing downstream NF-κB activation. results implied may be active unit shiitake β-glucan. determination was reveal anti-tumor effect immune-regulatory function β-glucan a molecular level provide basis.

Cancer has a high rate of incidence and mortality throughout the world. Although several conventional approaches have been developed for treatment cancer, such as surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy thermal therapy, they remarkable disadvantages which result in inefficient cancer. For example, immunogenicity, prolonged treatment, non-specificity, metastasis cost are considered major drawbacks chemotherapy. Polysaccharides, kind practical biomaterials, divided into types, including chitosan, alginates, dextran, hyaluronic acid, cyclodextrin, pectin, etc. Polysaccharides extracted from different natural resources (like herbal, marine, microorganisms, etc.). The present research aimed to assess the anti-cancer effects of polysaccharide fraction (SJP) isolated from Saccharina japonica. release immune-activating cytokines, including IL-6, IL-12, and TNF-α, was markedly stimulated by SJP in a concentration-dependent manner within range 1 100 µg/mL. Furthermore, prophylactic intravenous (p.i.v.) per os (p.p.o.) injection boosted cytolytic activity mediated NK cells CTLs against tumor cells. In study involving Colon26-M3.1 carcinoma as lung cancer model, both p.i.v. p.p.o. exhibited significant anti-lung-cancer effects. Notably, administration at dose 50 mg/kg reduced colonies 84% 40%, respectively, compared control. Moreover, remained substantial, even when cell function inhibited using anti-asialo-GM1.
