Mismatch between warning information and protective behavior: Why experts + AI < 2?

Abstract
Warning
information
plays
a
vital
role
in
encouraging
disaster
preparedness
among
residents.
Using
survey
experiment
data
from
619
respondents
China,
this
study
examines
how
warning
messages
AI,
experts,
and
combination
of
the
two
influence
public
behaviors
whether
degree
impact
differs
between
these
sources.
The
findings
reveal
that
warnings
those
sources
significantly
affect
behaviors.
Notably,
contrary
to
conventional
expectations,
combined
AI
experts
do
not
result
mutually
strengthening
effect.
Instead,
crowding‐out
effect
is
observed,
whereby
less
than
sum
individual
effects
(“Experts
+
<
2”).
This
outcome
can
be
attributed
fatigue,
suggesting
overload
does
always
benefit
but
instead
often
becomes
burden.
Additionally,

Abstract
Background
As
a
part
of
the
decontamination
process
after
Fukushima
Daiichi
Nuclear
Power
Plant
accident
2011,
1.32
million
tonnes
tritium-containing
water
will
be
discharged
from
power
plant
into
Pacific
Ocean.
Although
radiobiological
impacts
treated
discharge
on
public
and
environment
were
reported
to
minimal,
Tomioka
Okuma
locals
expressed
unease
regarding
long-term
recovery
their
towns,
which
are
economically
dependent
agricultural,
fishery,
tourism
sectors.
This
study
presents
thoughts,
perceptions
concerns
FDNPP-treated
containing
tritium
Ocean
facilitate
more
inclusive
decision-making
that
respects
local
stakeholder
interests.
Methods
Conducted
November
December
2022,
surveys

current
residents
