The August 2024 floods in Bangladesh have precipitated a major public health crisis, significantly elevating the risk of waterborne and vector-borne diseases exacerbating existing vulnerabilities. This disaster has impacted over 5 million people, causing widespread environmental disruption, population displacement, strained healthcare resources. flooding latrines, sewage systems, agricultural land led to contamination drinking water sources, increasing cholera, enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli diarrhoea, shigellosis, hepatitis. Additionally, stagnant floodwaters created breeding grounds for mosquitoes, thereby threat malaria dengue fever. disruption services further compounded delaying emergency responses impeding access care. psychological impact on affected communities is profound, with mental issues such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder emerging significant concerns. perspective provides an analysis these threats, supported by data discussion underlying factors. underscores need immediate long-term interventions, including restoring clean access, enhancing disease surveillance, repairing infrastructure, addressing needs. response this must be rapid comprehensive, lessons learned inform preparedness efforts better manage similar events future.

Introduction This study aims to assess individual flood preparedness in the flood-prone Islampur Union of Sunamganj District, Bangladesh, using an index-based Holistic Individual Preparedness Model (HIPM). Methods A total 510 respondents participated a face-to-face field survey, which employed 21 indicators. The key objectives were evaluate extent and its determinants. Statistical methods such as multiple linear regression Spearman’s rank correlation used analyze relationship between various sociodemographic factors. Results discussion results show that 91% felt insecure during floods 86% experienced damage their homes. significant proportion (87%) rated warnings inadequate, while 84% did not seek refuge shelters. Notably, 54% demonstrated limited knowledge measures. Factors like gender, housing type, monthly income, evaluation associated with levels, females residents kacha (unsafe) houses being less prepared. underscores need for targeted campaigns educational initiatives improve preparedness, particularly vulnerable groups.

This study explores the most effective educational methods for conveying information about natural disasters in large institutions like universities. Focusing on a sample of 405 students from Ege University (Turkey), it examines whether knowledge levels vary based demographic factors such as gender, faculty, and class year. The findings reveal significant differences these demographics. also shows that disaster education enhances overall reduces disparities. Additionally, compares effectiveness different communication tools—face-to-face, brochures, videos—demonstrating face-to-face video-based are more than brochures delivering disaster-related information.
