How well can older adults adapt to retrofitted spaces that were never designed meet their evolving needs? Retrofitted senior living facilities often magnify safety risks purpose-built environments are specifically mitigate, forcing with functional limitations contend bathroom ill-suited needs. Among these, microenvironments stand out as critical zones of vulnerability, warranting immediate investigation. This study explored the lived experiences in facilities, focusing on how unique these settings impact safety, autonomy, and fall risks. In-depth, semi-structured interviews conducted 14 four urban facilities. Moustakas' transcendental phenomenology Modified Stevick-Colaizzi-Keen method employed analyze data. Four primary themes emerged: navigating barriers, psychological strain daily navigation, through adaptation, economic cultural barriers safety. The findings expose a stark reality: frequently fail accessibility needs adults, them compromise both dignity independence.
