Recently, several types of distributed energy resources (DERs) have been developed to reduce the environmental impact and support global demand for electrical energy. However, continuous penetration DERs into modern power systems (MPSs) may cause adverse impacts in terms operation performance indices (PIs) quality issues, especially low-voltage distribution (LVDSs). To cope with these serious achieve optimal control, hosting capacity (HC) must be accurately estimated optimally optimized. it requires an extensive communication infrastructure, which is hardly offered without clear financial benefits. In this regard, article investigates historical developments HC definitions as well recent operational indices, estimation methods active networks (ADNs) high-penetration level existence DERs, storage (ESSs), electric vehicle (EV) charging systems, sector coupling, hydrogen technologies, multi-carrier (MESs) deal electrical, thermal, cooling demands. review intended exhibit appropriate reference comprehensive research trends optimization based on ADNs. Additionally, involves covers most current topics detail compared other published articles. Moreover, authors deliberate approaches evaluating improving HC, concerning data-driven methods, aid various software simulating real systems. main factors MPS operations are deliberated market developments.
