Current climate crisis makes the need for reducing carbon emissions more than evident. For this reason, renewable energy sources are expected to play a fundamental role. However, these not controllable, but depend on weather conditions. Therefore, green hydrogen (hydrogen produced from water electrolysis using energies) is emerging as key carrier solve problem. Although different properties of have been widely studied, some aspects such and footprint, well technological development regulatory framework in parts world analysed depth. This work performs data-driven analysis three pillars: maturity, technology. Results will allow evaluation deployment, both current situation expectations. Regarding lower that other fossil fuels competitive with types hydrogen, while footprint higher fuels. Additionally, results show fully developed there great inequality legislation regions world.

Clean hydrogen is a key pillar for the net zero economy which can be deployed by consistent utilization on heavy-duty transport. This study investigates distributed green infrastructure (DHI) transportation consisting of on-site production, storage, compression, and refueling systems in Italy. Two options energy supply are analyzed: grid connection using via Power Purchasing Agreements (PPAs) direct to photovoltaic field, respectively. Radiation data representative three main Italian areas, namely South (Catania), Center (Roma), North (Milano). The sensitivity analysis varies PPA value between 50 €/MWh 200 €/MWh, water electrolysis capacity factor 20% 100%. finds that LCOH ranges from 7.4 €/kgH2 67.8 first option, 5.5 27.5 second with Southern Italy having lowest due higher solar irradiation. research shows DHI offer economic technical benefits mobility. However, performance highly influenced external conditions, such as demand electricity prices. provides valuable insights into designing operating mobility, promoting carbon-free society.
