Abstract Photocatalytic water splitting is capable of converting abundant solar energy into environmentally friendly and renewable chemical energy, presenting a promising solution to alleviate the crisis combat environmental pollution. The development high‐performance photocatalysts crucial for significantly improving efficiency hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) involved. Polyoxometalate (POM)‐derived materials, known their tunable compositions, diverse structures, electron storage/release capabilities, as well quasi‐semiconductor photochemical properties, serve highly efficient catalysts in sustainable photosynthesis. This comprehensive review navigates latest advancements assembly strategies HER performance POM‐based crystalline materials. It also discusses composite materials formed by infiltrating POM metal‐organic frameworks (MOF) examines roles transition metal compounds derived from polyoxometalates, such sulfides carbides, photocatalytic HER. Emphasis placed on prospects future photocatalysts, along with several outlooks that could facilitate progress. POM‐derived are believed have significant potential enhance production while maintaining thermal stability processes.
