design optimization Design-material transition (DMT) threshold A B S T R C TThe ribbon kirigami pattern has garnered significant attention over the past decade because of its interesting geometric and mechanical properties such as extreme elongation high ductility, making it a viable choice for various applications developing medical devices flexible electronics.Despite promising prospects this type morphing structure, deformation mechanism sensitivity to materials parameters have remained largely unexplored.Here we take computational approach studying process ductility typical metastructure.To end, is divided into stages.We demonstrate existence certain at which behavior starts be dominated by constituent material, after initial geometric-design-dominated stages.This turning point, called design-material threshold, determines key limit in capacity metastructures practical applications.Based on introduced mechanism, an prediction model derived metastructure, followed conducting experiments validate accuracy model.Furthermore, genetic algorithm interior-point method are utilized develop efficient pattern.We anticipate that findings study open path engineering functional patterns fabrication highly ductile shape-shifting structures.
