Abstract This paper investigates a honeycomb sandwich structure that draws inspiration from the craft of origami. A specific folding pattern was applied to create origami‐based re‐entrant (ORH), aimed at improving energy absorption properties structure. The study on structures under low‐velocity impact (LVI) utilized both experimental and numerical approaches. were examined by conducting LVI tests with different then compared mechanical traditional (TRHSS). Additionally, refined finite element model has been established its accuracy verified. Numerical studies conducted explore effects structural parameters ORH (ORHSS). results show ORHSS exhibited significant reduction in peak force when subjected LVI, contrast TRHSS. Furthermore, exhibit efficiency absorption. Enhancing wall thickness or angle can significantly improve ORHSS, thereby boosting honeycomb's contribution this process. optimization an improved absorptive effect findings offer new recommendations for developing lightweight absorbent materials potential applications across various industries. Highlights novel composite serves as efficient device absorbing energy. exhibits excellent cushioning capabilities. Changing geometric enhance performance larger makes core more prone deformation. greater forward length ORH, lower (SEA) ORHSS.
