Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) symptoms have been proposed to be linked Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) atypical functioning, in particular sympathetic hyper-arousal and parasympathetic under-activation. The objective of this study was characterize autonomic functioning at rest autistic neurotypical children adults. To several aspects we recorded simultaneously pupil diameter, heart rate electrodermal activity during 5 min 44 (6-12 years old, 22 autistic) 42 adults (19-52 21 autistic). Several parameters allowed tonic phasic indices systems rest. Autistic exhibited the expected pattern under-activation compared their typically developing (TD) peers, with a tendency for higher activity. Adults reverse pattern, individuals showing tonus lower than TD peers. In conclusion, observed an disequilibrium both adults, but opposite patterns that could reflect adaptive compensation mechanisms maturation. This would switch from excessive components possibly subtended by locus coeruleus functioning.

Preschool children, who spend most of their time indoors, and the effects artificial light on children's health performance are important. Previous studies show that blue-enriched white (BWL) has significant human bodies, but only a few have specifically examined its in young children. Moreover, due to physiological differences between children adults, findings from BWL adults cannot be directly applied Therefore, investigating living indoor environments is crucial. We recruited 24 preschool (age: 5 ± 0.8 years; 12 girls boys) participate within-subject, randomized crossover study involving common (CWL) (450 lx, Melanopic EDI: 354.04 lx) 746.05 kindergarten playroom. Under different conditions, underwent tests for cardiac activity critical flicker fusion frequency (CFF), as well psychomotor vigilance task (PVT) ruler drop test (RDT). The results indicated had Compared CWL exposure, exposure significantly improved activity, alertness, neuromuscular response slightly increased visual fatigue. Our reveals potential improve cognitive functions, particularly response. This broadens understanding lighting provides theoretical basis designing healthy environment

(1) Background: Hippus (which in this paper will be called "Pupillary nystagmus") is a well-known phenomenon which has never been related to any specific pathology, so much that it can considered physiological even the normal subject, and characterized by cycles of dilation narrowing pupil under constant lighting conditions. The aim study verify presence pupillary nystagmus series patients suffering from vestibular migraine. (2) Methods: 30 with dizziness migraine (VM), diagnosed according international criteria, were evaluated for compared results obtained group 50 complaining was not migraine-related. (3) Results: Among VM patients, only two cases found negative nystagmus. non-migraineurs dizzy three had nystagmus, while remaining 47 did not. This resulted test sensitivity 0.93% specificity 0.94%. (4) Conclusion: we propose consideration as an objective sign (present inter-critical phase) associated diagnostic criteria diagnosis

This study aimed at evaluating the autonomic response to pleasant affective touch in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and age-matched typically developing (TD) peers, thanks multiple nervous system (ANS) parameters by contrasting CT (C-tactile fibers) high- vs. low-density territory stimulations. We measured pupil diameter, skin conductance, heart rate during gentle stroking of two territories (CT low-density, respectively, forearm palm hand) thirty 6–12-year-old TD twenty ASD children. showed an increase diameter conductance associated a deceleration tactile stimulations locations. Only was influenced stimulated location, later dilation peak following stimulation. Globally, exhibited reduced responses, as well different ANS baseline values compared These atypical responses were not specific CT-fiber Overall, these results point towards both basal dysregulation lower evoked ASD, possibly reflecting arousal related social disengagement.

Abstract The interplay between the different components of emotional contagion (i.e. state and facial motor resonance), both during implicit explicit appraisal emotion, remains controversial. aims this study were (i) to distinguish these thanks vocal smile processing (ii) assess how they reflect processes and/or an loop. Emotional subtle emotions was studied in 25 adults through resonance Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) reactivity. Facial expressions (fEMG: electromyography) pupil dilation assessed judgement artificially emotionally modified sentences. fEMG revealed that Zygomaticus major reactive perceived valence sounds, whereas activity Corrugator supercilii reflected judgement. Timing analysis provided further insight into showing earlier for stimuli than neutral stimuli, followed by valence-dependent variations a late judgement-dependent increase diameter. This innovative combination electrophysiological measures shed new light on debate central peripherical views within framework contagion.

Pupil diameter, controlled by the autonomic nervous system (ANS), reflects numerous processes, from arousal to cognitive functions. In particular, characteristics of pupil at rest, its size and dynamics, reflect tonic activity ANS. However, which factor can influence these pupillary rest remains unclear. has been shown have a physiological, rhythmic oscillatory called hippus is naturally occurring in children adults still poorly characterised. Our aim better characterise investigating how parameters are influenced different bottom-up (illumination) top-down (cognitive load) conditions. Thirty were included study (19-35 years old). order disentangle illumination load, we recorded variations during 5 randomly appearing blocks. For each block, participant had fixate central cross. The blocks varied according gradients (11 lux, 19 lux 28 lux) load (fixation, dot counting mental subtraction). Three main assessed: median frequency amplitude hippus. We observed clear differences between illumination, decreased when increased. conditions, high led greater dilation frequency. Overall, processing differently, probably through shared integrative structures like locus coeruleus superior colliculus.
