The recent outbreak of Monkeypox (Mpox), particularly the clade 1b variant, have shifted epidemiological landscape, making it a Public Health Emergency International Concern. Africa remains hotspot with significant ongoing outbreaks, necessitating focused study on trends and forecasting to guide health interventions. This utilizes comprehensive dataset from four most affected African countries, covering weekly cumulative Mpox cases August 6, 2023, 18, 2024. Time series analysis techniques, including ARIMA models Join Point Regression, were employed forecast analyse annual percentage change in new cases. Descriptive statistics highlighted variability across studied regions mean at 72.55 high standard deviation 60.885. Forecasting suggest continued increase cases, expected reach 6922.95 by 65th week (95 % CI: 6158.62 7687.27) projected 45.93 -88.17 180.04). underscores persistent nature outbreaks critical need for continuous surveillance adaptive public strategies. forecasts generated offer valuable insights into potential future trends, aiding allocation resources implementation targeted interventions curb spread disease.

The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention declared mpox a Public Health Emergency of Continental Security (PHECS) in Africa. African public health systems have moved to mobilize response against backdrop inherent significant challenges. With this commentary, we discuss how lessons from past emergencies, particularly COVID-19 Ebola outbreaks, prepared the region improved disease surveillance, rapid strategies, effective communication these can be applied response, emphasizing importance strong healthcare infrastructure, data sharing, community engagement, targeted interventions, robust contact tracing. Additionally, addressing misinformation building trust are crucial controlling spread any disease. By leveraging countries enhance their mpox. This includes improving diagnostic capabilities, strengthening cross-border collaborations, prioritizing vaccination campaigns where needed. Ultimately, by applying hard-earned pandemic outbreak, East better address challenges posed safeguard health.

Mpox is an emerging viral infection and has since May 2022 been reported in a multi-country outbreak involving predominantly previously non-endemic countries. In addition, the number of cases mpox also rising some endemic countries Western Central Africa. The disease notifiable medical condition South Africa, with no before 2022. However, 2022, coinciding peak outbreak, five were diagnosed country. Genomic sequencing analysis revealed presence monkeypox virus variant, which was circulating during namely Clade IIb sub-lineage B.1.7 (hMPXV). After fifth case there detected for following 20 months. 2024, again Africa leading to concerns that may have silently transmitting country Whole genome 22 September compared sequences obtained from globally. It found 2024 analysed this study, clustered hMPXV B.1.20 B.1.6 sequences. results indicate detection extension ongoing outbreak. Detection different sub-lineages indicates reintroductions local transmission B1.20 hMPXV.
