Abstract Malaria is a global health challenge with endemicity in sub-Saharan Africa, where there are multiple drug-resistant strains and limited access to modern care facilities, especially rural areas. Studies indicate that African traditional medicine could make substantial contribution the reduction of malaria-related deaths achievement universal coverage (UHC), particularly these regions. Thus, this study evaluated curative antimalarial effects Chromolaena odorata leaf extract using mouse model. Forty-five (45) albino mice weighing between 18 22 g were grouped into nine groups 5 animals each. Animals 2–9 infected chloroquine-resistant strain Plasmodium berghei, while 3–9 subsequently treated 10 mg/kg chloroquine, combination 1.4 artemether 8.75 lumefantrine (Coartem), varying concentrations fraction from aqueous C. at day 3 post-infection. The findings treatment 400 ethanolic crude resulted significant decrease parasite load (97.6%), which was comparable activities conventional drugs chloroquine (98.6%) Coartem (98.8%). ethyl acetate fractions also ameliorated alterations red blood cells, white platelets animals. high activity displayed by be due presence quercetin kaempferol, as detected performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis. suggest serve an alternative source malaria therapy, Africa.

Arimisia annua L. is an important anticancer herb used in traditional Chinese medicine. The molecular basis underpinning the activity complex and not fully understood, but herbal polysaccharides, broadly recognised as having immunomodulatory, antioxidant activities, are potential key active agents. To examine functions of polysaccharides from A. annua, their immunomodulatory potentials were evaluated, well structural characterization. water-soluble (AAPs) fractionated using size-exclusion chromatography to obtain three dominant fractions, AAP-1, AAP-2 AAP-3, masses centered around 1684, 455 5.8kDa, respectively. isolated evaluated by measuring radical scavenging activities against DPPH● (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical), ABTS●+ (2,2′-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid ion), OH● (hydroxyl radical). AAP-1 displayed high these radicals, which 68%, 73% 78%, lower than other two fractions. Immunostimulatory AAPs measured mouse macrophages. polysaccharide fractions significant stimulated production tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) interleukin-6 (IL-6). showed immunostimulatory (16-fold increase IL-6 compared control 13-fold TNF-α) with low toxicity (>60% cell viability at 125 μg/mL concentration). Preliminary characterization was carried out gas (GC) FTIR techniques. results indicate that pyranose-containing β-linkages, AAP-3 a β-fructofuranoside. suggest candidates for immunotherapy cancer treatment.

Abstract Artemisia species have significant commercial, medical, and economic value are widely used in the traditional medicine pharmaceutical industries. Artemisinin, a powerful antimalarial agent, is an important metabolite that primarily accumulates within glandular trichomes (GTs) on leaf surface of plants. Trichomes arising from elongation epidermal cells can be classified into GTs non-glandular (NGTs) based their morphology. NGTs present species, relationship between artemisinin has been extensively studied; however, correlation remains relatively unexplored. In this study, we inferred derivatives trichome characteristics type developmental stage, age conducted analyses to investigate factors influencing content across different species. Artemisinin its exhibited variations distribution age, with decreasing trend observed most as stage progressed. Noticeable differences among were shape, morphology, distribution. Although data did not evidently differentiate groups, principal component analysis revealed was positively associated density, indicating coefficient 0.56 ( p < 0.0001). Therefore, number may affect

Artemisinin is the most practical medication for treatment of malaria, but only very minimally synthesized in Artemisia annua, significantly less than market needs. In this study, indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) was used to investigate its effects on trichomes, artemisinin accumulation, and biosynthetic gene expression A. anuua. The results showed that exogenous IAA could contribute growth development annua increase density trichomes. Analysis using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) indicated dihydroartemisinic (DHAA) contents were increased by 1.9-fold (1.1 mg/g) 2.1-fold (0.51 after comparison with control lines (CK), respectively. Furthermore, quantitative real-time PCR AaADS, AaCYP71AV1, AaALDH1, AaDBR2, four critical enzyme genes biosynthesis artemisinin, had relatively high transcription levels leaves treated IAA. summary, study a feasible strategy enhance production, which paves way further metabolic engineering biosynthesis.

Artemisinin, a drug used to treat malaria, can be chemically synthesized or extracted from Artemisia annua L. However, the extraction method for artemisinin biomass needs more sustainable while maintaining enhancing its bioactivity. This work investigates use of aqueous solutions salts and ionic liquids with hydrotropic properties as alternative solvents Among investigated solvents, cholinium salicylate sodium were found most promising. To optimize process, response surface was further applied, in which time, hydrotrope concentration, temperature optimized. The optimized conditions resulted yields up 6.50 6.44 mg·g–1, obtained salicylate, respectively. extracts tested their antimalarial activity, showing higher efficacy against Plasmodium falciparum strain compared pure (synthetic) conventional organic solvents. Characterization revealed presence together other compounds, such artemitin, chrysosplenol D, arteannuin B, J. These compounds act synergistically enhance activity extracts. Given growing concern about resistance, results here pave way development biobased drugs.
