Significance of nicotine and nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in Parkinson’s disease

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a multifaceted neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in substantia nigra and aggregation α -synuclein. According to epidemiological data, PD second most prevalent after Alzheimer’s (AD) has emerged as significant global health concern. This review examines intricate pathological mechanisms high-risk factors associated with PD, discusses challenges its clinical diagnosis treatment. We elucidate relationship between smoking reduced risk highlighting potential neuroprotective effects nicotine present tobacco. The interaction nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) analyzed detail, emphasizing their capabilities underlying molecular mechanisms. Furthermore, we analyze structural functional diversity nAChRs roles progression PD.
