Anhedonia, or diminished pleasure and motivation, is a symptom of severe mental illness (e.g., depressive disorder, bipolar schizophrenia) that emerges during adolescence. Anhedonia pernicious related to social impairments, treatment resistance, suicide. As the mechanisms anhedonia are postulated include frontostriatal circuitry dopamine neuromodulatory system, development plasticity these systems vulnerable period adolescence, as well their sensitivity pubertal hormones, suggest maturation could play role in anhedonia. This review takes developmental perspective, considering possibility context adolescent development, with childhood adversity chronic inflammation influencing neural reward accelerate anhedonia's progression. Here, we relevant extant literature on components this model directions for future research.

Depression is generally accompanied by a disturbed conscious processing of emotion, which manifests as negative bias to facial/voice emotion information and decreased accuracy in recognition tasks. Several studies have proved that abnormal brain activation was responsible for the deficit function depression. However, altered related depression incongruent among studies. Therefore, we conducted an likelihood estimation (ALE) analysis better understand underlying neurophysiological mechanism depression.Electronic databases were searched using search terms "depression," "emotion recognition," "neuroimaging" from inceptions April 10th, 2023. Exposure to environmental pollutants early in life has been associated with increased prevalence and severity of depression adolescents; the neurobiological mechanisms underlying this association are not well understood. In current longitudinal study, we investigated whether pollution burden adolescence (9-13 years) is altered brain activation connectivity during implicit emotion regulation changes depressive symptoms across adolescence. 145 participants (N=87 females; 9-13 provided residential addresses, from which determined their relative at census-tract level, performed an affective task scanner. Participants also completed questionnaires assessing three timepoints, each approximately two years apart, calculated within-person slopes symptoms. We conducted whole-brain analyses examine alterations function positively- negatively-valenced stimuli, how these effects related Greater was greater bilateral medial prefrontal cortex (MPFC) stronger MPFC regions within default mode network (DMN; e.g., temporoparietal junction, posterior cingulate cortex, precuneus) negative emotions, increases those exposed higher burden.
