Association Between Oral Microbiota Dysbiosis and the Risk of Dementia: A Systematic Review

Background/Objectives:
Growing
evidence
suggests
that
oral
microbiota
dysbiosis
may
contribute
to
the
development
of
systemic
conditions,
including
neurodegenerative
diseases.
This
dysregulation

immunoinflammatory
responses

dementia.

Results:

Tannerella
forsythia,
Fusobacterium
nucleatum,
Porphyromonas,
Prevotella,
Leptotrichia,
Fusobacteriota,
Peptostreptococcaceae,
Candida
spp.
consistently
Alzheimer’s
disease
mild
cognitive
impairment,
indicating
their
potential
role
neurodegeneration.
In
contrast,
Streptococcus
gordonii,
Gemella
haemolysans,
Rothia,
Neisseria,
Haemophilus
reduced
cognitively
impaired
individuals,
suggesting
link
healthy
cognition.
Studies
also
showed
decreased
diversity
possible
modifying
effect
APOE4
allele.
Oral
health
interventions
improved
slowed
decline,
supporting
diagnostic
therapeutic
modulation.
Conclusions:
The
findings
suggest
not
only
result
from
decline
but
its
pathogenesis.
Future
larger
more
diverse
cohorts
recommended
validate
these
associations.

Background
The
association
between
psychiatric
disorders

dentofacial
deformities

attracted
widespread
attention.
However,
their
relationship
is
currently
unclear
controversial.
Methods
A
two-sample
bidirectional
MR
analysis
was
performed
to
study
the
causal
deformity
eight
disorders,
including
major
depressive
disorder,
panic
schizophrenia,
bipolar
attention
deficit
hyperactivity

spectrum
neuroticism.

weighted,
