With the advancement of urbanization, complexity and diversity urban spatial forms have become increasingly prominent, profoundly widely affecting aspects such as layout planning, well residents’ quality life. This paper focuses on buildings in Harbin City, comprehensively reflecting form through multiple dimensions including building height, volume, area. research precisely quantifies three key indicators buildings: coverage, expandability, staggeredness. Subsequently, these are intertwined with main driving factors development (including economic resident population) to conduct a multidimensional analysis. The results indicate that Harbin’s is result interplay factors, demographic influences. These analytical outcomes not only reveal evolution mechanism current but also provide data support theoretical basis for future planning management.

The Sustainable Development Goals Satellite 1 (SDGSAT-1), equipped with the Glimmer Imager (GLI), provides high-resolution nighttime light (NTL) data across multiple spectral bands, potentially facilitating monitoring of sustainable development goals (SDGs). This study developed a denoising algorithm for multispectral SDGSAT-1 GLI and demonstrated that its capacity allows measurement SDG indicators 7.1.1, 11.5.2, achievement target 7.3. results indicate (1) can effectively remove strips salt-and-pepper noise from images, residual significantly reduced almost little information loss. (2) accurately identify electrified areas at finer spatial scale calculating Indicator compared to traditional NASA's Black Marble Product. findings show highly urbanized cities exhibit greater proportion their population access electricity than underdeveloped cities. (3) proficiently estimates economic losses resulting non-natural disasters 11.5.2. Changes in NTL intensity strongly correlate pandemic-induced losses, an R2 exceeding 0.8. (4) When measuring Target 7.3 achievement, bands classify streetlight types into light-emitting diode high-pressure sodium lamps acceptable overall accuracy (89.9%). Sequentially, classification shows Shanghai achieved 13.09% energy-saving benefit. Overall, by leveraging high resolution, spectra, appropriate satellite overpass times GLI, estimated this outperform those based on products, have potential serve as direct source or reference factor estimating least 11 indicators.

As of 2018, approximately 55% the world’s population resides in cities, and it is projected that this proportion will reach 68% by 2050. Population growth urban areas leads to various impacts on society environment. In study, we have developed a method for generating future scenarios nighttime lights. What makes unique its ability (1) generate gridded light intensity (2) preserve distribution pattern intensity, (3) reflect policies. By applying method, estimated data 555 cities worldwide predicted expansion changes carbon emissions each SSP scenario. Consequently, both are increase entire set target with patterns varying among scenarios. This study contributes advancement scenario research, including estimation area emissions.

Green city areas are crucial in mitigating the Urban Heat Island Effect (UHI). However, cooling effect of green can be influenced by surrounding complex urban spatial environment. This study focuses on Changsha, a subtropical China, where 40 were screened and analyzed. The aims to quantify specific impact morphology areas. Through statistical correlation regression analysis, this focused six indicators: building density (BD), floor area ratio (BFR), volume (BVD), evenness index (BEI), average height (BH), standard deviation (BSD). results indicate that could morphology. Factors such as BD, BFR, BH, BSD found significantly correlated with areas, BH showing strongest influence. BD BFR negatively correlated, while positively correlated. range values determined achieve optimal conditions for Additionally, relative position neighboring affects is most pronounced situated south These findings provide solid foundation planning around spaces offer scientifically sound evidence UHI.

The quality of nighttime light (NTL) data is an important factor affecting the estimation gross domestic product (GDP), but most studies do not use latest NPP/VIIRS V2 annual composite product, and there a lack China’s GDP products in recent years. To address this problem, paper remote sensing method for mainland China from 2013 to 2023. First, are preprocessed, noise masking used remove outliers. total amount NTL, average NTL value, comprehensive index extracted. Combined with Statistical Yearbook, fitting model constructed. differences between different models compared analyzed, optimal selected as model. In addition, through model, spatial 2023 produced. Moreover, spatiotemporal variation characteristics focus on decline regions changes rankings provinces cities. main conclusions include following: (1) time regression analysis, linear MNL has strong correlation GDP, R2 0.972. This calculate GDP. (2) distribution high east low west, it shows characteristic extending provincial capital surrounding connectivity adjacent high-GDP areas continues increase. (3) From 2023, parts showed upward trend, 98.56% pixels growing only 0.99% declining. declining mainly distributed heavy industrial cities supported by fossil fuel resources, such Ordos, Daqing, Aksu, etc. (4) Compared statistical data, overall difference estimated large, relative error 0.04% 1.95%. perspective ranking each province, much different, fluctuating ±2. A small number have large due reasons dominant industries power supply. Urban built-up areas are the main space carrier of population and urban activities. It is great significance to accurately identify area for monitoring urbanization dynamics their impact on Sustainable Development Goals. Using only nighttime light (NTL) remote sensing data will lead omission phenomena in extraction, especially SDGSAT-1 glimmer imager (GLI) with high spatial resolution. Therefore, this study proposed a novel Lights integrate Building Volume (LitBV) index by integrating NTL intensity information from GLI building volume Digital Surface Model (DSM) extract more accurately. The results indicated that LitBV achieved remarkable extraction areas, overall accuracy 81.25%. based better than volume. Moreover, experiments at different resolutions (10 m, 100 500 m) types (SDGSAT-1 data, Luojia-1 NASA’s Black Marble data) showed can significantly improve areas. has good application ability prospect extracting high-resolution data.

Therefore, this study aimed construct a framework for estimating long-term time series of building volume by integrating nighttime light data, land use and existing Indicators horizontal expansion (UHE), vertical (UVE), comprehensive development intensity (CDI) were constructed describe spatiotemporal characteristics growth, Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei (BTH) agglomeration 2013 2023. The UHE UVE increased 0.44 0.30 0.50 0.53, respectively, indicating that BTH has simultaneously experienced rate was more significant. areas suburbs higher continuously increasing; particular, changed 0.35 0.60, showing highest increase. most significant concentrated rural areas. spatial pattern CDI stable, declining trend along urban–suburb–rural gradient, 2023 surrounding In terms temporal variation, during 2013–2018 significant, while it slowed after 2018 because economic had leveled off. Economic scale, UHE, main positive factors.
