Spatial control over molecular self-assembly at the nano scale offers great potential for many high-tech applications, yet remains a challenging task. Here, we report polymer brush-mediated strategy to confine of hydrazone-based hydrogelators exclusively nanoparticle surfaces. The surfaces these nanoparticles are grafted with negatively charged polyacrylic acid, which enrich protons that can catalyze in situ formation and gelators. We found that, respect lengths, concentration presents more significant effects on process properties resultant hydrogels, including gelation time, stiffness, network morphology. More interestingly, hydrogel fibers be formed specifically around nanoparticles, demonstrating directed nanoscale self-assembly. This work demonstrates triggering using catalysis serve as an effective way realize scale, may powerful approach improve material properties, such mechanical supramolecular materials this work.
