Abstract The modern surfactant industry demands more efficient and environmentally friendly products as environmental regulations become stringent. Amino acid Gemini surfactants (AAGSs), the emerging green of amino surfactants, together with Geminis, which consist two or amphiphilic moieties chemically linked by a spacer group, are most reliable these chemicals. With diversity structure topological configuration AAGSs have stronger aggregation ability multifarious molecular morphology. They used in various fields such pharmaceuticals, biomedicine, daily chemicals, oil recovery treatment. This review contains detailed discussions on synthesis from natural non-natural sources using reactions Hofmann alkylation Schotten-Baumann condensation. physicochemical properties low CMC, good emulsification, different micelle forms, high biodegradability, antibacterial biocompatibility presented. Future research directions also suggested, including their optimized synthesis, clarification structure-performance relationships, exploration new applications wider range fields.
