Reppe carbonylation of acetylene is an atom-economic and non-petroleum approach to synthesize acrylic acid acrylate esters, which are key intermediates in the textile, leather finishing, polymer industries. In present work, a noble metal-free Co@SiO2 catalyst was prepared evaluated methoxycarbonylation reaction acetylene. It discovered that pretreatment by different reductants (i.e., C2H2, CO, H2, syngas) greatly improved catalytic activity, Co/SiO2-H2 demonstrated best performance under conditions 160 °C, 0.05 MPa 4 1 h, affording production rate 4.38 gMA+MP gcat−1 h−1 for methyl (MA) propionate (MP) 0.91 gDMS dimethyl succinate (DMS), respectively. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectra CO adsorption (CO-DRIFTS) measurements revealed H2 reduction decreased size Co nanoparticles promoted formation hollow architectures, leading increase metal surface area on catalyst. The hot filtration experiment confirmed Co2(CO)8 generated situ during or at pre-activation stage, served as genuine active species. Our work provides facile convenient synthetization reaction.
