Meticulously engineered nanomaterials achieve significant advances in the diagnosis and therapy of solid tumors by improving tumor delivery efficiency; thereby, enhancing imaging therapeutic efficacy. Currently, polydopamine (PDA) attracts widespread attention because its biocompatibility, simplicity preparation, abundant surface groups, high photothermal conversion efficiency, which can be applied drug delivery, therapy, theranostics, other nanomedicine fields. Inspired PDA structures that are rich catechol amino functional groups coordinate with various metal ions, have charming qualities characteristics, metal-coordinated exploited for but not thoroughly summarized. Herein, this review summarizes recent progress fabrication their availabilities further in-depth discussion challenges future perspectives structures, aim systematic promote interdisciplinary intersections provide inspiration growth clinical translation materials.
