Abstract Epoxy‐type afterglow luminescence is a cascade reaction of photochemical defects caused as result the formation and release epoxy intermediates, exhibiting continuous phenomenon that remains intrinsic after excitation, with extremely impressive signal‐to‐background ratio (SBR) level in vivo. Abstract Singlet oxygen is a crucial reactive species (ROS) in photodynamic therapy (PDT). However, the hypoxic tumor microenvironment limits production of cytotoxic singlet through light irradiation PDT photosensitizers (PSs). This restriction poses major challenge improving effectiveness PDT. To overcome this challenge, researchers have explored development carriers that can capture and release physiological conditions. Among these developments, anthracene‐based endoperoxides, initially discovered almost 100 years ago, shown ability to generate controllably under thermal or photo stimuli.
