The world population is increasing at an alarming rate and tremendous quantity of waste getting produced due to urbanization, industrialization, increase in human population, various anthropogenic activities that cause serious problems disposal management. In developing countries, the most common practice processing management includes (i) land-filling (ii) incineration (iii) unscientific dumping, (iv) vermi-composting. first three methods have one or another drawback including, contamination soil groundwater, environmental pollution by burning biomass, impacting health hygiene environment. One safest for managing organic vermi-composting, eco-friendly bioremediation process mediated earthworms conversion into compost a sustainable manner. Earthworms play very important roles welfare such as decomposers, bio-fertilizer manufacturers, land reclaimer, protein producers, food vitamin source, natural detoxicant bio-indicator pollution, bait, industrial raw materials, above all drug sources. However, contribution still underdetermined modern society. this article, efforts been made summarize current scenario management, potential decomposition find sustainable, eco-friendly, economic solution manage waste.

Urban agriculture is crucial for enhancing food security in densely populated areas, but maintaining soil health these settings key long-term productivity. This study investigates the effects of locally produced compost and biochar amendments on plant nutrients at two urban farms Sacramento, California, USA. Regionally sourced was from pistachio shells, made on-site green waste, creating a closed-loop system that recycles organic materials back into soils. We hypothesized combined application would increase water holding capacity nutrient retention, leading to enhanced microbial activity higher concentrations corn compared individual amendments. Field trials were established both sites using randomized complete block design with four treatments: control, applied approximately 25 t ha −1 (equivalent 10 Mg C ), 12.5 compost-biochar mix (20 ). Soil samples collected during mid- late-season, analyzed physicochemical properties. Corn kernel also measured. Over one growing season, results showed treatments significantly increased capacity, matter content, cation exchange better structure retention. nitrate (NO 3 − –N) bioavailable phosphorus (P) biochar-amended The metabolic community evenness, though overall diversity remained stable. kernels exhibited concentrations, particularly P, Mg, Ca, Fe. Overall, combination treatment had most significant impact improving properties, responses, demonstrating their cumulative benefits crop nutrition. By utilizing recycling this demonstrates resource-efficient approach fertility resource-limited farms. These practices have potential play vital role addressing challenges communities, those experiencing insecurity, while promoting sustainable resource management.

Soil structure is a crucial constituent influencing soil organic richness, rooting systems, and moisture conservation. Adding biochar to the soil, which directly affects aggregation, can significantly alter status. The extent of this impact influenced by temperature at pyrolysis formed. derived from wheat straw made 350, 450, 550, 650 °C (B350, B450, B550, B650) on aggregation retention was evaluated in study. Based results, B550 had largest mean weight diameter, most water-stable aggregates, highest available water content compared control, with increases 235%, 39% 166% control. On other hand, B350 identified as weakest treatment, no significant difference Using B650 reduced bulk density 13% 12% Therefore, formation micro-aggregates, development porosity, subsequent increase are unavoidable during addition B550. change hydrophilic character attainment an optimal oxygen/carbon ratio degradations critical factor hydrology issues.

Soils play a fundamental role in terrestrial life maintenance. However, agricultural soil pollution with metals (specifically, heavy metals) has resulted global ecological problem spanning decades. Agricultural pesticides and metal-based fertilizers overuse the crop is an imminent threat to ecosystem. In addition, increasing demand for food unsustainable practices agriculture severe damage living organisms soil. Soil microbiota (SM) determining factor environment quality since it plays essential biogeochemical cycles contributes enormously successful production. although more efficient than traditional agrochemicals, metallic nanoparticles (Me-NPs) use - sometimes overused triggered numerous impacts on SM, mainly microbial structure diversity. Thus, this perspective aimed address Me-NPs application agriculture, microbiota, expand discussion dangers ecosystem balance.

Urban-induced habitat conversion drastically changes soil life in a variety of ways. Soil sealing, human disturbance, fragmentation, industrial and vehicular pollution are the main causes urban degradation. arthropods, as one most abundant diverse group fauna, involved many processes that great importance maintaining health multifunctionality. Nevertheless, quality is still mainly characterized by physical, chemical, microbiological parameters. Here, we assessed compared biological woody (REF: reference forest, REM: remnant forest) nonwoody (TURF: public turfgrass, RUD: ruderal habitat) types green spaces along disturbance management intensity gradient Budapest metropolitan area (Hungary), using community metrics arthropod-based indicators. Vegetation cover landscape characteristics study sites were quantified through vegetation urbanization indices, respectively. Basic properties, total bioavailable concentrations heavy metals (Cd, Co, Hg, Ni, Zn) also measured. Acari, Collembola, Hymenoptera (mainly Formicidae) groups. Litter-dweller taxa, particularly Protura, proved to be sensitive disturbance. Representatives Hemiptera, Diptera, Symphyla, Pauropoda common low densities. The taxonomic diversity arthropod assemblages habitats was similar. Although integrated faunal indices showed no differences among types, they provided different responses and, consequently, information. Our findings demonstrated structure soils strongly impacted C/N metal contamination. We found moderate levels have adverse effects on edaphic suggesting degradation soils, even below limits. more disturbed been shown play significant role belowground biodiversity, thereby functions.
