The interaction between microplastics (MPs) and pollutants is crucial for assessing the environmental risk of MPs. It necessary to pay attention adsorption/desorption behavior antibiotics on MPs due their potential role in antibiotic resistance. When MPs-loaded are ingested by organisms, they enter gastrointestinal tract undergo desorption, leading corresponding toxic effects. Existing literature primarily focuses adsorption behavior, while there a lack systematic generalizations desorption or combined effects organisms. Therefore, this article provides review mechanisms, biological tract. Desorption suggests that characteristics (aging hydrophobicity) components fluid (digestive enzyme species pH) can also have effect desorption. Moreover, summarizes induced MPs-antibiotics, demonstrating either enhance reduce plants, microorganisms, aquatic animals. Currently, the production and consumption of pharmaceuticals is growing exponentially, making them emerging contaminants that cause hazards to ecological environment human health. These drugs have been detected in surface water drinking around world. This indicates conventional treatments used are ineffective for removal these compounds from water, since they very complex, with high stability persistence aquatic environments. Considering this problem, several types alternative treatments, such as advanced oxidative processes, studied. Of these, AOPs using irradiation received increasing interest due their fast reaction rate ability generate oxidizing species, which leads an efficient degradation mineralization organic compounds, thus improving quality allowing its reuse. Therefore, review, we focus on advances made last five years irradiated different classes pharmaceutical compounds. The articles address study parameters, method synthesis materials, oxidants used, treatment time, type light toxicity effluents. review highlights success hopes help readers better understand processes limitations removing environment. It also sheds some paths future research must follow so technology can be fully applied.
