Abstract Due to high energy content and environmentally friendly attributes, hydrogen is regarded as an ideal carrier, serving a viable alternative fossil fuels. Steam reforming of fuels currently the dominant source production with negative environmental impacts, therefore aqueous phase (APR) biomass derivatives represents attractive method for green due its relatively mild operating temperatures carbon neutrality. This work provides overview types catalysts employed in APR process their pros cons regarding performance conditions. Effects various catalyst supports, e.g., alloy oxides, composite active metals ceria, feedstocks, on are also discussed. Recent advances challenges summarized into several aspects, (1) doping metals/inorganics support, (2) structural manipulation defect induction (3) synthesis single-atom catalysts, (4) development more eco-friendly processes or catalysts. The present review can provide guidance prospective efficient supports H 2 production.
