Abstract Globally, the deteriorating Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect poses a significant threat to human health and undermines ecosystem stability. UHI mitigation strategies have been investigated utilized extensively within cities by provision of green, blue or gray infrastructures. However, urban land is precious limited for these interventions, making it challenging address this issue. Neighboring rural cover may serve as cooling source great potential mitigate through processes such heat absorption circulation. This study aims following questions: (1) what location neighboring effectively entire city (2) are key parameters landscape. We quantitative qualitative relationships between UHI, drawing on geographical environmental data from 30 Chinese 2000 2020. found that extending outward boundary, approximately half equivalent diameter city, had most pronounced impact mitigation. The number adjacency landscape patches (a patch homogeneous nonlinear basic unit pattern, distinct its surroundings) emerged two factors in mitigating with their individual reduce up 0.5 °C. proposed recommendations were avoid fragmentation enhance shape complexity distribution uniformity patches. work opens new avenues addressing high-temperature catastrophes perspective, which also promote coordinated development areas.

Urban street comfort is a crucial measure of environmental quality. However, traditional evaluations primarily focus on physical elements, often neglecting pedestrian perceptions. In this study, considering five core evaluation dimensions—safety, mobility, aesthetics, perceptibility, and convenience—an innovative quantitative model proposed to assess pedestrian-perceived urban streets by integrating factors subjective experiences. This analysis comprises two steps: indicator extraction weight application. Indicators are extracted from multi-source data (street-view images, real-time traffic data, points interest, surveys) using deep learning method. A comprehensive weighting method combining entropy the analytic hierarchy process used determine relative importance each factor. study focuses Nanjing as case results reveal significant variations across dimensions their 11 secondary indicators. Street environment safety (0.143) critical for safety, while degree congestion (0.121) dominates mobility. aesthetics influenced building enclosure (0.105), convenience strongly affected number surrounding bus stops (0.260). Spatial indicates higher levels in centers due well-developed infrastructure, whereas peripheral areas face challenges inadequate facilities. Notably, around parks demonstrate elevated levels, highlighting green spaces. Overall, system provides new insights perspective experience offers valuable guidance planning policy.
