Agricultural or environmental application of biochar (BC) is connected with the introduction biochar-derived components among which polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and heavy metals are most toxic. Their presence bioavailability crucial considering toxicity. The effect feedstock pyrolysis temperature on physicochemical properties produced contaminant content was established combined toxicity to a broad range living organisms. obtained data revealed that predicting PAHs using total misleading. influenced by factors in following way: bioavailable > ash BC stressing role characteristics. Among tested properties, surface functionalization, e.g. oxygen-containing functional groups revealing clearly indicate additional research required determine BC's impact various organisms performing one ecotoxicity test not sufficient.
