Abstract The unprecedented surge in the demand for personal protective equipment (PPE) worldwide during covid pandemic resulted a significant increase PPE consumption and subsequent waste generation. Despite importance of PPE, its widespread usage disposal have sparked worries about environmental impact long-term sustainability. increasing awareness challenges, resource scarcity, urgent need to mitigate climate change necessitates paradigm shift product design, manufacturing process, management PPE. To address these challenges sustainable future, development degradable polymers natural fibers offers promising alternative traditional plastics. Additionally, recycling upcycling methods can convert into valuable alternate products or energy sources, thereby reducing their impact. Better systems, comprehensive policy frameworks, international collaborations are essential effective promotion practices. collaborative efforts across governments, manufacturers, research institutions, authorities crucial transitioning more industry circular economy, ultimately benefiting both environment society.

Microplastics (MPs) are of great interest for study because they accumulate in environmental systems, such as terrestrial ones, which include agricultural soils. Unfortunately, recent years, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many face masks have been discarded environment, causing an increase this type MP. This accumulation can influence physicochemical and biological properties soil derived from its microbial activity. In present study, different concentrations MPs commercial polypropylene (PP) were mixed with soil. Four treatments following MP studied: T1: 0%, T2: 0.5%, T3: 1%, T4: 5% w w−1. C N mineralization experiments carried out over time at microcosm level, where physicochemical, enzymatic ecophysiological indicators analyzed. Based on analyzed indicators, a quality index called Unified Weighted Additive Index (SQIu) was developed. The resulting SQIu showed Nmin indicator closest relationship soils MPs. Once determined, T4 treatment significant differences (p≤0.05) respect control, presenting higher value. importance conducting more research dynamics types, sizes, help establish strategies measure effects local, national, international levels.

This study focuses on the application of shredded waste nitrile glove fibers (SWNGF) in sustainable cement-based materials, aiming to address challenges personal protective equipment (PPE) disposal and explore new uses construction sector. Specimens were prepared using Conch brand ordinary Portland cement as base material, mixed with pure water, incorporated varying volumes (0%, 1%, 2%, 3%) sizes (15 mm × 5 mm, 20 15 10 mm) SWNGF. Through compressive strength, flexural strength tests, SEM analysis, results revealed that both strengths decreased increasing SWNGF content, size showing relatively better performance terms strength. Compressive strain initially increased then decreased, favoring strain. Flexural deflection steadily for Group A, followed by an initial increase a decrease B, while C showed consistent rise. Incorporating improved toughness, post-failure specimens C3 at T d3 d5 , A3 d10 performed better. Microscopically, bond between gloves matrix gaps, but flexibility rubber performance. The surface characteristics facilitated bonding, multiple hydration products observed matrix, some interconnected pores affecting density. provides data support theoretical basis concrete, holding significant potential promoting use PPE industry.
