Abstract
The
unprecedented
surge
in
the
demand
for
personal
protective
equipment
(PPE)
worldwide
during
covid
pandemic
resulted
a
significant
increase
PPE
consumption
and
subsequent
waste
generation.
Despite
importance
of
PPE,
its
widespread
usage
disposal
have
sparked
worries
about
environmental
impact
long-term
sustainability.
increasing
awareness
challenges,
resource
scarcity,
urgent
need
to
mitigate
climate
change
necessitates
paradigm
shift
product
design,
manufacturing
process,
management
PPE.
To
address
these
challenges
sustainable
future,
development
degradable
polymers
natural
fibers
offers
promising
alternative
traditional
plastics.
Additionally,
recycling
upcycling
methods
can
convert
into
valuable
alternate
products
or
energy
sources,
thereby
reducing
their
impact.
Better
systems,
comprehensive
policy
frameworks,
international
collaborations
are
essential
effective
promotion
practices.
collaborative
efforts
across
governments,
manufacturers,
research
institutions,
authorities
crucial
transitioning
more
industry
circular
economy,
ultimately
benefiting
both
environment
society.

Microplastics
(MPs)
are
of
great
interest
for
study
because
they
accumulate
in
environmental
systems,
such
as
terrestrial
ones,
which
include
agricultural
soils.
Unfortunately,
recent
years,
due
to
the
COVID-19
pandemic,
many
face
masks
have
been
discarded
environment,
causing
an
increase
this
type
MP.
This
accumulation
can
influence
physicochemical
and
biological
properties
soil
derived
from
its
microbial
activity.
In
present
study,
different
concentrations
MPs
commercial
polypropylene
(PP)
were
mixed
with
soil.
Four
treatments
following
MP
studied:
T1:
0%,
T2:
0.5%,
T3:
1%,
T4:
5%
w
w−1.
C
N
mineralization
experiments
carried
out
over
time
at
microcosm
level,
where
physicochemical,
enzymatic
ecophysiological
indicators
analyzed.
Based
on
analyzed
indicators,
a
quality
index
called
Unified
Weighted
Additive
Index
(SQIu)
was
developed.
The
resulting
SQIu
showed
Nmin
indicator
closest
relationship
soils
MPs.
Once
determined,
T4
treatment
significant
differences
(p≤0.05)
respect
control,
presenting
higher
value.

This
study
focuses
on
the
application
of
shredded
waste
nitrile
glove
fibers
(SWNGF)
in
sustainable
cement-based
materials,
aiming
to
address
challenges
personal
protective
equipment
(PPE)
disposal
and
explore
new
uses
construction
sector.
Specimens
were
prepared
using
Conch
brand
ordinary
Portland
cement
as
base
material,
mixed
with
pure
water,
incorporated
varying
volumes
(0%,
1%,
2%,
3%)
sizes

mm
×

mm,

SWNGF.
Through
compressive
strength,
flexural
strength
tests,
SEM
analysis,
results
revealed
that
both
strengths
decreased
increasing
SWNGF
content,
size
showing
relatively
better
performance
terms
strength.

strain
initially
increased
then
decreased,
favoring
strain.
Flexural
deflection
steadily
for
Group
A,
followed
by
an
initial
increase

showed
consistent
rise.
Incorporating
improved
