Abstract The current textile industry is characterised by unsustainable business models. There a need to transform the towards sufficiency – that where consumption decreased level adequate and within planetary boundaries. Through literature review interviews with small Finnish companies, our research synthesizes previous provides new information about practices companies can employ advance as part of their everyday business. We found have various activities enable, promote or inspire sufficiency. Activities relate six categories: (1) valuing quality over quantity, (2) enabling multiple product lives, (3) provision support services, (4) encouraging doing-it-yourself, (5) ethics-motivated communication interaction (6) embracing locality. connected each strategy are manifold context specific including, for example, permanent collections, not having discounts, repair service, curated second-hand products users during use phase. The study examines: (1) how place-based organizational tensions arise in the context of local textile and fashion manufacturing, (2) strategies employed to address these tensions. Based on interviews with owners and/or managers from Norwegian companies, identifies three main categories tensions: Mission: Belonging vs Performing; Spatial: Organizing; (3) Competence: versus Learning. Moreover, four interrelated coping used by actors tackle strengthen position manufacturing global industry. findings contribute existing literature identifying key linked business models steps taken oppositional demands everyday practices.
