Forest ecosystems provide many ecosystem services, and payment for these services has recently become a policy-relevant issue. This paper puts forward multi-function quantitative standard (MQECS) forest based on the Human Development Index six distinct service values. Using MQECS method, i total ecological compensation amount (TECA ) in Guangdong Liaoning provinces 2012 were calculated. The MQECSi of 663.02 225.27 RMB·hm −2 , TECAi 66.82 × 10 8 13.67 RMB, respectively. is approximately three times that Liaoning, government needs to increase investment per unit area by 176.25% 50.20% current achieve target standards. Additionally, method was also applied calculate different cities Liaoning. not only considers local government's ability pay but incorporates factors influencing human wellbeing valuation services. It suitable application management China.

Hilly mountainous regions are ecologically complex, featuring diverse environmental ecosystem services (ESs) and intricate interactions. However, the variability, drivers, management of these ESs remain poorly understood, particularly in with significant topographical climatic heterogeneity. This study focuses on southern hilly mountain belt China, examining five key services: food production (FP), carbon storage (CS), water yield (WY), habitat quality (HQ), soil conservation (SC). examines across long-term, pixel, regional scales, exploring interactive relationships identifying driving factors cluster characteristics. The results indicate following: (1) Over past 23 years, although have increased, has declined. (2) From a spatial perspective, differences trade-offs synergies years relatively small. observed when considering continuous temporal change, trade-off generally prevalent. Additionally, distribution is also influenced by combination factors. (3) Climatic, vegetation, topographical, socioeconomic influencing changes ESs. For instance, climate–vegetation interactions enhance conservation. Socioeconomic factors, though less impactful, optimize through land policy. (4) We found that ecological priority region covers largest area, followed agricultural development zone, forestry integrated security zone. These findings deepen our understanding regions, providing actionable insights for enhancing sustainable complex landscapes.
