Under the combined influences of climate change and human activities, western Jilin (WJ) Province, as a typical ecologically fragile area, has experienced ecological degradation resource depletion. Therefore, it is urgently needed to assess its carrying capacity (ECC) provide scientific support for regional protection management. This study integrated “Pressure-State-Response” (P-S-R) model with “production, living, spaces” (PLES) conceptual construct comprehensive evaluation indicator system ECC. The weights were calculated using Bayesian BWM-CRITIC-CWDF linear combination method, spatial–temporal distribution ECC was then assessed an improved TOPSIS gray relational analysis (GRA). overcomes limitations traditional methods in weight allocation, correlation, non-linear effects, providing more accurate, reliable, objective assessment Furthermore, bivariate spatial autocorrelation applied reveal interaction between “coupling coordination degree (CCD) PLES” results indicate that value divided into period decline (2000–2010) growth (2010–2020); spatially, level transitioned from high-west, low-east high-east, low-west pattern. primarily driven by factors such fertilizer usage, per capita GDP, output. “CCD indicated positive forming “high-high” “high-low” clusters. provides reliable index evaluating WJ. findings theoretical foundation region’s sustainable development offer valuable insights research.
