Compound dry–hot events refer to climate phenomena where drought and high temperatures occur simultaneously. Compared single extreme events, compound may have greater adverse impacts. This study uses high-spatial-resolution observational data (i.e., temperature, precipitation, water balance) cluster identify spring in the Pearl River Basin over past nearly 50 years. It further investigates associated large-scale atmospheric circulation conditions during events. Using three clustering methods twenty-six evaluation criteria, six are identified. These primarily exhibit negative anomalies precipitation balance positive temperature. The spatial distribution results show that moisture deficits mainly concentrated eastern Basin, especially Delta region. An analysis indicates commonly accompanied by persistent abnormal high-pressure systems, relatively weak westerly transport from subtropical regions such as Indian Ocean Bay of Bengal (20–25 °N), limited input western Pacific this can help better understand analyze risk changes context global warming.
