The adaptive and independent interrelationships between different body composition components have been identified as crucial determinants of disease risk. Based on this concept, the load-capacity model composition, which utilizes measurements obtained through non-anthropometric techniques such dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), was proposed. This is typically operationalized ratio metabolic load (adipose mass) to capacity (lean mass). In recent years, a series indices (LCIs) utilized identify abnormal phenotypes sarcopenic obesity (SO) predict risk metabolic, cardiovascular, cognitive disorders. review, we comprehensively review characteristics LCIs used in previous studies, with specific focus their applications, especially identifying SO predicting cardiometabolic outcomes. A systematic literature search performed using PubMed, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Embase, Cochrane Library. Two meta-analyses were conducted to: (1) estimate overall prevalence mapped by LCIs, (2) assess association total 48 studies (all observational) included, comprising 22 LCIs. Ten included meta-analysis prevalence, yielding pooled 14.5% (95% CI: 9.4% 21.6%). Seventeen adverse outcomes, showed significant higher LCI values increased (OR = 2.22; 95% 1.81 2.72) diseases (e.g., diabetes syndrome [MetS]). These findings suggest that could be particularly useful identification cases prediction Future longitudinal are needed validate chronic neurodegenerative diseases. has registered PROSPERO (CRD42024457750).

Abstract Sarcopenic obesity (SO) is a body composition phenotype derived from the simultaneous presence in same individual of an increase fat mass and decrease skeletal muscle and/or function. Several protocols for diagnosis SO have been proposed last two decades making prevalence disease risk estimates heterogeneous challenging to interpret. Dementia complex neurological disorder that significantly impacts patients, carers healthcare systems. The identification factors early cognitive impairment dementia key mitigating forecasted trends 2‐fold case numbers over next worldwide. Excess adiposity sarcopenia both independently associated with dementia. Whether greater currently uncertain. This review critically appraises current evidence on association between outcomes risk. It also discusses some putative biological mechanisms may link alteration brain functions.
