Impact of COVID-19 Lockdown on Glycemic, Weight, Blood Pressure Control and Medication Adherence in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes

This
study
aimed
examine
impact

lockdown
on
glucose-lowering
lipid-lowering
therapies
(statins),
glycemic,
weight,
systolic
pressure
control
measures.
A
retrospective
chart
review
was
conducted
one
year
pre-
post-
March
18,
2020,
for
receiving
medications
(statins)
two
major
public
hospitals
Malaysia.

The
COVID-19
pandemic
has
been
associated
with
lifestyle
changes,
reduced
access
to
care
and
potential
impacts
on
medication
self-management.
Our
main
objectives
are
evaluate
the
impact
of
patient
adherence
long-term
medications
determine
its
association
sociodemographic
clinical
factors.
This
study
is
part
Specchio-COVID-19
longitudinal
cohort
in
Geneva,
Switzerland,
conducted
through
an
online
questionnaire.
Among
982
participants
(median
age:
56;
61%
female),
827
took
medications.
There
were
76
reported
changes
dosages,
which
24
(31%)
without
a
physician’s
recommendation,
51
delays
initiation
or
premature
interruptions,
(47%)
recommendation.
Only
1%
(9/827)
faced
issues.
Participants
taking
respiratory
had
four-times
greater
odds
reporting
more
regular
(OR
=
4.27;
CI
95%:
2.11–8.63)
intake,
whereas
each
year
increase
age
was
significantly
6%
fewer
relative
risks
discontinuation
0.94;
0.91–0.97)
3%
dosage
0.97;
0.95–1.00).
Despite
limited
medications,
our
results
emphasize
need
for
understanding
challenges
when
self-managing
their
medication,
notably
during
public
health
crises.
