Abstract Bioplastics offer a solution to the problem of increasing atmospheric CO 2 levels contributed by linear production and consumption pattern fossil‐derived plastics closing carbon loop with material sourcing from biomass bioplastic's biodegradability. Spirulina, genus cyanobacteria that is capable rapid uptake, can be key realizing circular plastic economy converting value‐added high protein content biomass, which extracted processed produce protein‐based bioplastics captured biodegradable, releasing after decomposition returned cycle. To demonstrate feasibility utilizing self‐assembling capabilities Spirulina fabricate bioplastics, simple procedure proposed involves isoelectric point precipitation followed solvent casting an entirely bioplastic film containing glycerol as plasticizer without blending other types conventional plastics. By further crosslinking carboxymethylcellulose Ca 2+ cations, are able obtain films highest average tensile strength 5.5MPa. Additionally, showed potential in UV‐blocking applications exhibited good

In modern times, seaweeds have become widely involved in several biotechnological applications due to the variety of their constituent bioactive compounds. The consumption dates ancient times; however, only from last few decades research can we explain mechanisms action and potential seaweed-derived compounds, which has led involvement food, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical industries. Macroalgae-derived compounds are great importance as properties enable them be ideal candidates for production sustainable “green” packaging. Diverse studies demonstrate that seaweed polysaccharides (e.g., alginates carrageenans) not provide health benefits, but also contribute biopolymeric film biodegradable dispersion plastics microplastics oceans provoke serious environmental issues influence ecosystems aquatic organisms. Thus, use biopolymers is now crucial replace plasticizers with materials, thus preserve environment. present review aims an overview on bioplastics might food or pharmaceutical

The use of plastics for packaging has some advantages, since they are flexible and inexpensive. However, most single use, which, combined with low recycling or reuse ratios, contributes substantially to environmental pollution. This work is part a project studying the habits Portuguese citizens concerning plastic food focuses on aspects related sustainability. survey was carried out via an online questionnaire about sustainability, recycling, knowledge effects materials their residues environment. results were obtained based statistical analysis data. participants tend think negative impact packages environment; 39% sometimes do not buy plastic; 30% try look alternatives. A substantial fraction, 81%, support avoidance utensils reduction in bags. Most have good strongly agree recycled materials, 87% respondents practice separation different types waste recycling. Changing consumption been easy task. Nevertheless, it expected that society will increasingly move toward sustainable habits, questioning its actions considering
