The aggravation of environmental problems such as water scarcity and air pollution has called upon the need for a sustainable solution globally. Membrane technology, owing to its simplicity, sustainability, cost-effectiveness, emerged one favorable technologies purification. Among all membrane configurations, hollow fiber membranes hold promise due their outstanding packing density ease module assembly. Herein, this review systematically outlines fundamentals membranes, which comprise structural analyses phase inversion mechanism. Membranes with switchable wettability, solvent resistance, and toughness have emerged as promising materials for separation applications. However, challenges like limited mechanical strength, poor chemical stability, structural defects during membrane fabrication hinder their widespread adoption. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs), crystalline constructed from molecules connected by covalent bonds, offer a solution due to high porosity, customizable properties. The ordered structures functionality provide COFs lightweight framework, large surface area, tunable pore sizes, which attracted increasing attention applications in separations. Recent research has extensively explored the preparation strategies of COF membranes various processes. Oily wastewater has been recognized as a threat to the environment due its hazardous nature and it can negatively affect ecosystem, threaten wildlife human health. Physical, chemical, biological technologies demonstrated mixed performance in oily treatment, and, therefore, proper treatment technology for needs be addressed. Membrane filtration using hollow fiber (HF) membrane is promising alternative remove emulsified oil from wastewater. This review discusses different sources of wastewater, various methods, technology.
