In this study, a novel hydrodynamic cavitation unit combined with glow plasma discharge system (HC-GPD) was proposed for the degradation of pharmaceutical compounds in drinking water. Metronidazole (MNZ), commonly used broad-spectrum antibiotic, selected to demonstrate potential system. Cavitation bubbles generated by (HC) can provide pathway charge conduction during (GPD). The synergistic effect between HC and GPD promotes production hydroxyl radicals, emission UV light, shock waves MNZ degradation. Sonochemical dosimetry provided information on enhanced formation radicals compared alone. Experimental results showed 14% 15 min alone (solution initially containing 300 × 10−6 mol L−1 MNZ). experiments HC-GPD system, 90% detected.
