Abstract BACKGROUND Soil erosion and sedimentation accelerate land degradation, especially in East Asia. Surface runoff is a major pathway for pesticide transport into surface groundwater, threatening aquatic ecosystems. This study investigated the rate, sediment yield, transport, concentrations across soil layers using small‐scale portable rainfall simulator (0.33 × 0.48 m) under laboratory field conditions. RESULTS Cumulative reached 2.1 2.3 ton ha −1 simulations, respectively. Maximum conditions were 1.3 mg kg (fipronil), 2.34 (clothianidin), 0.17 (imidacloprid); results comparable. Over 2% of applied pesticides dissolved runoff, while <1.2% adhered to particles. Fipronil exhibited highest losses posing acute toxicity risks organisms, with unit values exceeding safe thresholds bluegill sunfish. CONCLUSION Pesticide depend on solubility adsorption. Fipronil, despite limited movement, poses significant compared imidacloprid clothianidin. highlights role simulators understanding provides valuable insights mitigating environmental use. © 2025 Society Chemical Industry.
