Limited information is available about prenatal exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in electronic waste (e-waste) recycling sites. In this study, we determined 21 emerging PFAS 13 legacy 94 paired maternal cord serum samples collected from an e-waste dismantling site Southern China. We found 6:2 fluorotelomer sulfonate (6:2 FTSA), chlorinated polyfluorinated ether Cl-PFESA), perfluorooctanephosphonate (PFOPA) as the major PFAS, regardless of matrices, at median concentrations 2.40, 1.78, 0.69 ng/mL, respectively, samples, 2.30, 0.73, 0.72 samples. Our results provide evidence that activities contribute human FTSA, Cl-PFESA, PFOPA. The trans-placental transfer efficiencies (0.42–0.94) were higher than perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (0.37) structure-dependent. substitution fluorine with chlorine or hydrogen and/or hydrophilic functional groups may alter efficiencies. Multiple linear regression analysis indicated significant associations between clinical parameters, especially liver function erythrocyte-related biomarkers. Subsurface-flow constructed wetlands (SSF CWs), which include horizontal subsurface–flow (HSSF CWs) and vertical (VSSF have become increasingly popular for the treatment of various waste streams such as wastewater, landfill leachate, stormwater runoff. These utilize a variety natural physical, chemical, microbial processes to effectively remove contaminants. This article aims provide valuable insights into application subsurface-flow runoff by collecting reviewing relevant articles. Within realm contaminants, this review primarily focuses on nutrients, heavy metal, per- polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), are commonly found in worldwide. The removal percentages these contaminants vary across different studies, depending factors characteristics type scale wetland, well selection plants substrates used. study provides that significantly contribute including adsorption, plant uptake, biodegradation. percentage PFAS ranges from 1% 99% wetlands. wide range comes differences between category, soil type, wetland configuration, matrix effects. Additionally, paper brings attention current gaps limitations present research conducted within field. It is imperative conduct further studies utilizing real-world or synthetic deepen our comprehension domain. Furthermore, considering each category possesses unique properties, conducting individual group becomes crucial attain comprehensive understanding behavior transformation CWs.

Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are synthetic chemicals, encompassing compounds like perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), which have widespread applications across various industries, including food packaging firefighting. In recent years, China has increasingly employed 6:2 Cl-PFESA as an alternative to PFOS. Although the association between PFAS exposure hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) been demonstrated, underlying mechanisms that promote HCC proliferation uncleared. Therefore, we aimed investigate effects differences of PFOS on through in vivo vitro tumor models. Our results reveal both significantly contribute vivo. Exposure led reduced population doubling times, enlarged cell colony sizes, enhanced DNA synthesis efficiency, a higher proportion cells undergoing mitosis. Furthermore, Cl-PFES) shown activate PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway inhibit necroptosis. This action consequently enhances cells. phenotypic assay findings suggest tumorigenic potential surpasses PFOS; subcutaneous model using nude mice, mean weight for Cl-PFESA-treated cohort was 2.33 times observed (p < 0.01). Despite being considered safer substitute PFOS, pronounced this chemical growth warrant thorough assessment hepatotoxicity risks linked its usage.

End-of-life electric and electronic devices stand as one of the fastest growing wastes in world and, therefore, a rapidly escalating global concern. A relevant fraction these corresponds to polymeric materials containing plethora chemical additives. Some those additives fall within category hazardous organic compounds (HOCs). Despite significant advances capabilities analytical methods, comprehensive characterization WEEE plastic remains challenge. This research strives identify primary polymers by implementing non-target suspect screening approach. Gas chromatography coupled time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC-QTOF-MS), using electron ionization (EI), was applied for detection identification more than 300 substances this matrix. preliminary comparison carried out with nominal resolution EI-MS spectra contained NIST17 library. BPA, flame retardants, UV-filters, PAHs, preservatives were among detected. Fifty-one confirmed authentic standards. The study establishes database m/z ratios accurate characteristic compounds, encompassing HOCs. Semi-quantification predominant conducted across 48 samples collected from handling dismantling facilities Galicia. ABS demonstrated highest median concentrations, ranging 0.154 4456 μg g

Polyfluoroalkyl and perfluoroalkyl (PFAS) chemicals are fluorinated exhibit complicated behavior. They determined highly resistant to ecological modifications that render plants ecologically robust. Thermal stability water oil resistance examples of material qualities. Their adverse consequences causing increasing worry due their bioaccumulative nature in humans other creatures. Direct data indicates PFAS exposure causes endocrine system disruption, immune suppression, obesity, increased cholesterol, cancer. Several PFASs present drinking at low doses may harm people. These cancer-causing have caused concern for bodies all around the globe. Analytical techniques used identify measure an aqueous medium (membrane). Furthermore, a deeper explanation is provided removal methods, including mixed matrix membrane (MMM) technology. By removing over 99 % from wastewater, MMMs effectively remove sewage when support contains adsorbing components. we consider several factors affecting practical sorption methods onto various adsorbents.
